What a ********. One thing I hate about the Tour de France is how many contenders lose time or crash out in the first week. It’d be great to get to the mountains with lots of contenders but already Lopez, G. Hart & Porte have shipped time & Kuss lost 16 minutes
There was another huge one not far from the finish. Think Chris Froome ended up in the middle of that one.
In reality there were few real contenders even before the crashes, the Slovenians are going to be hard to beat. Cyclists are hard as nails though - footballers could learn a few lessons from them. Mark Soler broke both his arms in the crash, got back on his bike and finished the stage.
I think the winner will be one of Pogacar, Roglic, Carapaz & Thomas but I’m expecting Mas to be close & the Bahrain boys seem to have gone up a level (some might say suspiciously). I think both Haig & Bilbao will top 10 or maybe more. Agree about the toughness, I can’t remember his name now but years ago I remember a Vaconsoleil rider crashing into a barbed wire fence & riding on with cuts all over him & then there’s all the riders who’ve carried on after breaking bones. They’re a different breed.
You're thinking of Johnny Hoogerland. Was knocked into the fence by a car that was being driven by an official/ accredited person.
That's nothing...when we were young we'd fall off us bikes...break both arms and legs finish the stage and then do a 36 hour shift in 24 hours....and we were happy.
Crashes galore today (day 3) 2 bad ones in last 2km and Caleb Ewan doesn't look in a good way after that fall near the line.
It’s made for brilliant entertainment but I’m a bit gutted about these crashes. It’s hard to imagine Roglic & Thomas been anywhere near their best now, Haig’s out, Lopez is out of contention, several others have lost time & had crashes. Fingers crossed Cav can win tomorrow. He’s got a lot less competition with Ewan out & no doubt Demare & Sagan will be battered & bruised.
Today's bad crashes 1st crash Thomas at fault 2nd crash Roglic at fault 3rd crash Ewan at Fault. Looks to me as it's Podacar's to lose after only 3 stages because of the crashes.
Agree. Pogacar’s biggest obstacle is keeping on his bike. There’s another tight finale today. Carapaz could potentially match him or come close in the mountains but he’ll be minutes behind after the time trial.
I think passing drugs tests is his biggest obstacle, then it's staying on his bike. He might dominate the sport for a decade.
It's pretty amazing to have three great riders from Slovenia at once, I think the population is just over 2 million.
You could be right. There’s also some pretty blatant doping going off in the Bahrain team. When it’s one rider you can put it down to doping or an exceptional talent but when there’s a group of riders from one team all putting in performances better than they have previously or able to attack day after day it’s pretty obvious what’s going off.
Watched the highlights late last night....the amount of rain that was coming down unbelievable...I'm surprised that there wasn't more accidents with the riders coming off their bikes than there's already been ...the speed down hill was insane with the amount of water holding on the roads...rather them than me.....
