We had to do it a few weeks ago. No symptoms. Negative tests daily. If we'd ignored it & found out we'd given it to someone else because we'd been selfish then I wouldn't have been able to look at myself in the mirror.
According to today's Times: A total of 14,876 people tested positive for coronavirus yesterday, a rise of nearly 60 per cent on last week. The number of patients admitted to hospital rose by 10 per cent over the same period.
I noted there was a caveat, that the data for England was incomplete, so the figures are understated.
Just about the tube. My missus went to Hammersmith for her volunteered trial. Only way to get there was the tube. Sadly, it coincided with the England Scotland game. She let several trains pass as they were all rammed and virtually nobody was wearing a mask (she said they were all England fans, no sign of any scottish replica kits). I'd hope that was a one off. I've been on a couple of trains and generally seen good adherence, though some people think wearing it over your chin is fine. Was at the hospital for bloods on Friday and there was much less adherence there. No security. One way systems disbanded. Doctors and trades around 50/50 masks wandering the corridors. Though i would never believe anything that spiteful creature of hate says, there are certainly plenty of people who aren't following guidance from what I've seen.
I’d say compliance of mask wearing on the tube is comfortably above 90%. That’s from various trips in different directions and on different lines the last few weeks. The JBH tweet is as bad as those who pretend their kids have said some profound or make up a story linked to the opposite viewpoint. All just attention seeking hyperbole. Separately and not in reply. When will the data on hospitalisation remove people who catch Covid in hospital? Then we can see a really clean view of what impact the rise in cases is having. Can we also get data that has an overlay of the increased testing? Konta having to pull out of Wimbledon is an absolute joke.
If mask wearing is 90% generally, that there wasn't a face mask in sight paints an extremely grim view of football fans, doesn't it?
See also: About 80% of people wash their hands after using the toilet. compare that figure to the number in the bogs at Oakwell* *fairly sure Oakwell is typical of all grounds. But the fact there’s only 2 hand driers in a Gents that comfortably holds about 50 people using the urinals is a big clue.
In one of the last matches prior to the lockdown, probably the last match, the amount of people washing their hands after the toilet and queuing for the sinks was immediately noticeable. I'd never need to queue for a sink before in my life before then.
I mean it's slightly stereotypical but stereotypes are there for a reason. Although to counter that I went to Wembley for the first game and it was about 90% wearing masks on that journey up the Met line and as always strict rules enforced in Box Park.
I'd hope there's been an increase in washing hands since the beginning of the pandemic, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were lower than I'd hope, or once things become "normal" it gets jettisoned and goes to previous levels. The pandemic has shown some heartwarming moments but so many that just make you despair and think this planet just doesn't have a chance. Litter and vandalism are way beyond what they were.
i'm guessing it goes like this- children can't truly isolate on their own at home - they are not adults and therefore need care beyond being locked in a room for 10 days, which you can kind of do with an adult, they will come into contact with far more people in school then at home so until they test positive or 10 days has gone by (the longest time generally it takes from someone catching it to be positive or symptomatic )then the least risky and disruptive option is to have them stay at home and thereby lower the risk of onward transmissions, while allowing adults to continue to work.
I'm not sure whats stereotypical that they were England fans going to Wembley in England shirts. They were England fans. None wearing face masks. The 100% sample my wife encountered. Ironic given she was having to endure it to attend a non moveable time slot that she hopes may give clues that prevent her losing her life.
I'm saying it's stereotypical in general to expect football fans to ignore the mask rule. Not that you're being stereotypical. And your account lends itself to those steretypes. Your wife sample is correct. Mine is as well. Others probably saw something in the middle.
Given that the government themselves suggests most masks dont work, is it such a big issue or is it a case of you finding something to complain about?
As I said initially, our general experiences have been that adherence on trains has been good, apart from those choosing not to wear them properly which has been an issue all the way through sadly. This was sadly the first time either of us had seen anything flagrantly contradicting guidance. Sadly, it was football fans. I can't recall the exact time, but it would have been mid afternoon as her timeslot was 3pm. I've not been watching the games but i thought the game against scotland was late? Anyway, it wasn't good, and as you say, adds to the stereotype, which in this case, was perfectly evidenced.
And those adults can take the virus into factories, warehouses, restaurants a pubs. Just seems illogical to me.
That's interesting I hadn't seen that, would be interesting to see a breakdown of if that increase shows if its people who haven't been vaccinated or have.
You obviously never met my lads when they were younger - stick a playstation controller in their hands and we'd not see 'em for weeks!!
