You’ve not seen him play much have you? Still, he’s probably the first footballer ever to have an off night so you may have a point..........
The best day of football in general in a long time for me. Two awesome games, two 3-3s.. Just outstanding.
I’ve seen him in person twice actually. Once at Old Trafford in 2019 when he tore United apart because they couldn’t deal with his pace on the counter attack in the first leg of the Champions League last 16. And once in Paris two weeks later when they played with a deeper lying back 4 and he couldn’t get a kick because they didn’t let him stretch them with pace - a bit like tonight. And United even had Chris Smalling at centre back. He’s brilliant against a high line or on the counter attack. Any other time - meh.
Swiss deserved that. Other than that mad but brief period where they missed the penalty and then ended up behind, they dominated for me. Very impressed with Seferovic of course and Zuber on the wing. I felt old as f*** when Lilian Thuram’s son came on. Then realised I today spoke to Andy Cole’s son, who is 13 years younger than me. Ffs.
Was going to put how poor Mbappe was (before pen) either this is him regular or he didn`t have a good tournament, but have been beaten to it.
It may have been mentioned before but wasn't the Swiss Keeper off his line when Mbappe hit his penalty? I reckon he was and knew it as he looked at the Ref before beginning his madcap celebration. Should it have been reviewed by VAR an if that was the case a re-take ordered or hadn't they thought of that sort of thing when the dreaded system was invented?
Brilliant performance by the Swiss. To get to Bucharest (why Bucharest ffs) Switzerland travelled about 9,500 miles in total since tournament began - France about 1,500 - England 0. Q/Finals Baku (Azerbaijan) Czech v Denmark - Rome Eng/Ger v Swe/Ukr - St Petersberg Spain v Switz. - Munich Belgium v Italy.
