They had already discussed plans before WBA came in for him. I know they generally will be looking at players outside of our price range but if we have potentially unearthed a few gems, last thing we need is Val giving WBA the nod on em, could proper scupper us. Read already that WBA are suddenly interested in Emiliano Marcondes who we were rumoured to be looking at. I'm half expecting another player coming across from the US or maybe South America following Dikes impact last season.
It will be the same if our CEO goes to Forest. He will take with him all our contacts in all the countries we go scouting in fact in my mind he is a bigger loss than Val.
I suspect that there's very little that happens under the radar these days. The owners of Tesco know exactly what's going on at Aldi.
I can't get my head around the Murphy situation. He was giving interviews only a few weeks ago, and it looks like he'll be taking a role at a rival. Did he know he was off when he gave those interviews? How did the club allow it to get to such a late stage?
Agree on the whole. But there are sometimes those odd gems, especially the younger players who may not be attracting huge fees.
I think some clubs fail in the transfer market through snobbery. It doesn't make you a better player because you cost more. Maybe that's why they spunk away their parachute payments and end up in shed loads of debt too.
I imagine he only knows the 3 we have selected in each position and then he selects his preferred option. Doesn’t stop us going after number 2 or 3 and if we go for a formation change we might not be looking at the same players anymore anyway.
More importantly, how many of our players will he be in for? I'd be surprised if they don't make a bid for Helik
I would have thought Murphy would be more privvy to targets then Ismael until it actually comes to the final sprint in picking one. I would guess he'll take one look at the Forest budget and dismiss anything we're scrapping for, same for WBA as well.
He would have been a great replacement for Mowatt but it looks like Val will have them both next season as a pair of freebies https://www.nottinghampost.com/spor...ingham-forest-transfer-news-marcondes-5586823
I’m not too fussed re Marcondes most Brentford fans thought he had a poor season bar the play off games. Again I think when we start getting name checked in articles with players that’s more likely the agent pushing the agenda to force interested parties to start a bidding war. Most of our business usually goes under the radar.
Was Marcondes ever a real target? We’re loosely linked with dozens of players every season and we very rarely sign any. The new Marcondes to West Brom rumours are probably as lazy as the original rumours of him signing for us. Let’s see where he ends up. Besides, Brentford fans say he’s average. Only turned up for the play-offs.
I've learnt that if it gets out in the press invariably we don't sign them. A lot of the time our signings are totally left field.
