1) Sign Jack Marriott for a minimal feel 2) Sell him to rich championship club for £5million 3) Sign him back on a free 3 years later having used the money to get yourself promoted to the championship.
They're often quoted as doing things the right way, and fair play to them they have made money off sales but a lot of their fans are unhappy at how little gets reinvested and how little it's benefitted them on the pitch. Most think they'll struggle this season without significant investment which, given all the noise about the stadium, probably won't happen
In the time it's taken them to get back to the Championship, we've been down and back up again twice, and finished in the top 6 in the Championship.
Yet they've spend the vast majority of the last 10 years in League One whilst we (who are crap at everything apparently) have spent most of it in the Championship.
The fantastic Peteborough lost £3.5m last year and have total losses on £15m, oh how we should aspire to be like them.
Sorry, I forgot how much everyone hates Peterborough. My bad. Still wish we could sell decent players for the over inflated prices they sell barely average ones.
Thing with Peterborough, is it’s been proven on a number of occasions that the figure banded about when they sell players are rarely the real figure. The Chairman is known for elaborating.
You are right, I get fed up fans using Peterboro as the model to follow , its on the pitch where the fans want to see a return & despite them going up last season our record on the pitch is light years in front of theirs .
Peterborough sold... Assombolonga £8M Toney £15M Gayle £8M We should aspire to sell for higher prices
Don’t get me wrong, they know how to pick up a decent striker, but they set their team up to make the most out of their number nine. Probably just so they can sell them on for a decent packet. Look at how many forwards they’ve sold for a decent sum, versus other positions.
I cited a specific example. Which you've chosen to ignore. I'm not arguing to follow the Peterborough model. Just that it was a ridiculously good piece of business. Like if we signed Moore or Brown on a free for this season.
Not about "hating" them. It's just that while on the surface they may appear to be doing well by selling players for mega-bucks, but it's translated to **** all in the grand scheme of things. Took years to get back to the Championship, still only attracting 5k or 6k crowds(which is not likely to shoot up too much now) and have still lost over £4m over the course of the year and are operating with a £15m debt. Relying on a £5m+ player sale every year or so is just as reckless as the clubs spending money on players they can't afford. At some point it will bite them on the arse big time.
And still manage to make a loss. I don't think anyone has anything against Peterborough, but they're hardly aspirational.
