The overall quality of the officials in the tournament has been excellent. VAR doesn’t seem to cause much of a stir either.
That and the quality coming off the bench. An embarrassment of options. Denmark will be tricky but given the game it would be a massive disappointment not to win.
A quick google tells me… Spain won the tournament with only 1 goal conceded in 2012. That would be some record to beat.
So I have done some snooping and the least goals a team has let in to win the Euros was Spain in 2012...... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2012 1-1 with Italy in their first group game. After that it was 4-0 against ROI and 1-0 against Croatia. Then in the KO stage they beat France 2-0, Portugal on penalities after finishing 0-0 and Italy in the final 4-0. So they kept five clean sheets in a row in their six games, but this time we would be winning it playing a game more. Even at 4-0 up I felt nervy when Ukraine got forward because it would be an excellent achievement to win the next two to nill. Only Poland have scored against us in our last dozen games, which is a all time record for our national team. We are rock solid with so many defenders who have played for us or the Blades.
Still ended up tearing my hair out at how slow and possession hungry England were. Despite winning. Like I tore my hair out at how fast and possession starved Barnsley were. Despite winning. These times aren't made for the bloke craving a happy medium.
So proud of them tonight. Takes courage to carry any expectation. Let alone the weight of the nation. Can't wait for Wednesday.
