Personally, if this is true, I'll be sad to see him go. A big favourite of mine, Sollbauer was exactly the sort of signing we should've made six months earlier than we did. Yet again, it also proves I know nothing about football when I suggested he'd make a good captain for us next season.
Assuming he is one of our better earners It probably makes sense to use his wages towards a quality midfielder that will play regularly.
Not Woodrow imho. Gets into a sulk too easily and centre forward isn't always the best place to view a game from. I believe the captain should be from further back where he can see the game around him.
For the many reasons in the following 87 posts. If the op is correct that the club has informed Solly he's no longer required, its an own goal in my opinion
If they've told him his playing time may be limited this season we appreciate he's out of contract next season and may find it more difficult to get a new contract, I think it's only fair to let him speak to other clubs, and if he's decided that's the best option, we should respect it.
Thats the own goal though, they let him go but who knows what will happen in terms of injury, loss of form and suspensions. Keeping him another year would make sense as experienced cover
I’ll be sad to see him leave but it makes sense. They’ll not want to keep someone 31 on the books when he’s probably one of the biggest earners & doesn’t start regularly. If the new guy plays a back 4 instead of 3 centre back he’s even further down the pecking order.
That's more like it. Way down the pecking order for me, but stranger things have happened. Would need andersen-level improvements
That's what I was thinking when I found out he might be leaving. I didn't actually think he was going to Kaiserslauten.
If we go on to sell Mads or Helik this is an absolute nonsense. If we don’t, it’s still questionable. Who are the leaders in this squad? Players can have more value than only what they do for ninety minutes on match day. You need leaders on the pitch but you need leaders around the club too. I know he’s apparently a bit homesick but you’re not telling me we couldn’t have got him to stay with a twelve month extension and an arm round his shoulder. We are losing every leader at every level of the club this summer. I can’t see how this works out successfully.
Think i have the wrong club. Only just realised that Kaiserslauten now play in the third tier of German football. Doesnt seem that long ago they were playing champions league football.
Get all that, and losing 2 senior players in the same window is very detrimental. But if he's not happy and he wants to be near his family, it would be pretty hard nosed to stand in his way, and it would impact his influence off the field anyway. But you're first point is spot on. It should need to take an absolutely silly offer to prize Mads or Helik away now. Unfortunately, it will be Conway responding to bids, and it's not as easy to turn money down when you're the owner.
