If you had your way what rule would you change regarding the beautiful game, or what rule do you think is missing? Personally, I'd remove timekeeping duties from the ref. There should be a central stadium clock that stops as soon as the ball is out of play. Hopefully that would cut down on time wasting (we're as guilty as anyone for that).
Offside. Its far too complicated and the way its been rewritten (purely to suit VAR) it now does the opposite of what it was originally meant to achieve. And in playing on after the offence (again purely VAR related) it's potentially dangerous.
Players have to retreat 10 yards if they concede a free kick (like rugby) / if you concede a free kick you can't touch the ball afterward. Would cut down tactical fouls and players slowing the game down by standing on the ball. VAR for offside - have a panel of 3 refs watching it again 3 times in real time. If they unanimously agree it was offside then it is. If they are uncertain then it's not. VAR should be for clear and obvious errors - this drawing lines on the pitch is nonsense and doesn't match up with how most sane people watch a game. This would speed things up and bring VAR much more in line with how all fans perceive the game.
More than one as A few things I’d like to see change. Offside deffo, and timekeeping. Also, Any player approaching the ref whilst he is awaiting the VAR decision would get a yellow card, and any that follow him to monitor on the touch lines. I would keep the 5 subs.
I agree with this in theory. But you would have to reduce the time played in each half. Ball is only in play around 60 mins a game. One rule I still don't understand why players get booked for taking a shirt off. But nor do I understand why players actually take their shirt off knowing they'll get booked.
Sin bin for minor infractions like dissent, play acting..etc Maximum 3 players for 5 minutes at a time. Maybe too much of a change though. Obviously not for dangerous play though.
When ball is out of play, be that free kick, corner, thrown in etc, automatic yellow card for the opposition player deliberately kicking, picking up or running away with the ball. The one thing that really grinds my gears
Agree with the stuff about time. Think the booking for taking your shirt off is intended to stop political messages being worn on vests.
Definitely offside and definitely an automatic dismissal or one match suspension for diving depending on whether it's spotted at the time or retrospectively.
Oooh where do I start!? I can’t choose one sorry. Obstruction needs to be called more. The amount of times defenders block a player with no interest playing the ball! Pundits always applaud siting “good defending!” It slows the game down. Throw ins should be taken where they go out, not 15 yards down the line. Feigning contact to draw a foul. Seeing grown men throw themselves forward at the slightest touch or running then randomly stepping to one side without reason to cause a trip. Pundits again praising this as “clever play” “there was just enough contact!” Rubbish it’s cheating!! peace out
Ah that's interesting. I always thought it was something to with inciting the crowd. Still bonkers to me that some players take there shirt off just because they get a bit carried away and don't even have a message on their vests. Admittedly, I've only ever scored a goal in a five a side game, but I can't ever imagine getting so giddy that the first thing I want to do is get my belly out.
Retrospective video analysis of games to identify any instances of deliberate cheating/simulation. Automatic 5 match ban for the perpetrator AND a 1 match ban for the manager.
I'd allow fighting like ice hockey. It'd solve all the other problems, you're not going to dive for a soft penalty if you are going to get a kicking in return.
Offside is an obvious one for everyone, but one that boils my blood is "shielding" the ball particularly defenders running it out of play yards away from the line and deliberately blocking opponents from getting to it. I would change the rule to state that a player can only shield a ball when they are in control of it by having touched it first. Having touched they could then be deemed to be in control. If they haven't touched it then blocking off an opponent from trying to get the ball would be seen as obstruction.
All teams in a division have an equal budget at the start of each season, with points deductions for going over and bonus points for staying under - awarded monthly. The budget is based on the operating revenue of the smallest club/lowest budget in the division.
