Why does the player who missed the last one in a shoot out always get the blame? Last night it was Morata (it was on target but saved) and not the first Spainiard who blazed it over the bar!?
Last night you could tell who were going to miss, all 3 players had a look of men condemned to their fates. I'd have thought the coaches might have noticed the greenish shade around their chops when they gave them a number. Locatelli actually looked like he was praying on the way to the spot. Olmo was trying not to look at the goal, which isn't a good start.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/spain-e...tage-over-spain-in-euro-2020-penalty-shootout Apparently every penalty shootout during the Euro s and Copa America the team taking the 1 st penalties have gone on to win . Don't know the stats historically but I think there is certainly more pressure going second .
Funny, I was thinking that too when Spain missed their first one. I thought "I'd just go first, no one will remember if I miss".
I'd always put my hand if I'm an England player, reason being you'll either be a hero or get very rich due to missing. Waddle, Pearce and Southgate made more than JR Hartley from commercials. Yep you get ribbed by rival fans, but you'll never be forgotten every time a knock out tournament arrives. Obviously David Batty is the exception to the rule, cos everyone forgets him and never tries to remember him.
