When england won their penalty there were 2 balls on the pitch. Clarification of rules anyone? If that had been the reds surely the goal would have been disallowed!
Game should have been stopped so the spare ball could be cleared away resulting in an uncontested drop ball are more thoughts on that don’t know if that is the actual rule
Up to the ref whether he feels it warrants stopping play. The second ball didn't cause any disruption so he didn't stop play.
It should only be stopped if it interferes with play. So there was no reason to stop play. From https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/the-referee/#powers-and-duties an extra ball, other object or animal enters the field of play during the match, the referee must: stop play (and restart with a dropped ball) only if it interferes with play - unless the ball is going into the goal and the interference does not prevent a defending player playing the ball, the goal is awarded if the ball enters the goal (even if contact was made with the ball) unless the interference was by the attacking team allow play to continue if it does not interfere with play and have it removed at the earliest possible opportunity
There were more balls on the pitch than that love; 22 players, ref, 2 lineys, 2 managers = 27 blokes x 2 balls each (probably) = 54 balls = 2 more balls =56 balls total. I think.
To be fair, Argentina’s goal against England in the World Cup shouldn’t have counted due to it being handball by Maradonna… life’s **** isn’t it.
No sympathy, the ball was on the pitch for about 2-3 mins, they had three subs warming up who could have easily kicked the ball off but instead just stood trying to get the officials attention to waste more time.
Danish defender..... "Here's Raheem Sterling running into the penalty area with the ball at his feet! Ooh! There's another ball over there I'd better go and kick that one!"
Never read such jealousy and bitterness from the Scottish in the paper. Ian we will let you off cos yer a RED and a good sport (well apart from liking c@$) lol.
