It's split the public to if it was the right thing to do. Personally I wouldn't want a first loser medal and would have just stuck my hand out to take the medal and not allowed it around my neck. It would be a constant reminder of being so close but not actually achieving the goal so I would have given it away to a family member to look after.

No I don’t blame them. Sadly no one remembers the runners up no matter how close you got.

I don't know how some people have the energy to get all worked up about something like this!

I can see why some players might want to, I can see why some might not.

It is a non-story. Id rather they feel that way about it than settle for runner up. Hopefully this will make them more determined to go one further next year.

... apart from when we finished second in 1997. I remember that !!!
Funny though, we finished second and didn't get a trophy but the winner of the playoffs in third place gets a cup.

It’s weird because it doesn’t bother me either way what they do with it but I always watch closely to see who does what. Maybe I’m just nosey.

I would take it off straight away too.

I saw it as they weren’t happy with second.Nothing more and have no issue with it either.
If they were celebrating losing, people would have criticised them for having no ambition.

It's a personal choice but I don't blame any of them for taking off the medals.
No one remembers the runners up in any tournament.

I'm sure they will keep the medal and it will mean something to them in the future but in the heat of the moment I fully understand the reaction

Couldn't give a toss what they do with them, they won them, they own them their decision what they do with them. I really can't understand why anyone would get worked up about it.

Totally understandable. Certainly nothing to criticise em for. It's only due to formality that they go and collect them in the first place. In that moment I imagine those medals mean fk all, other than a reminder that they just lost. Can't expect general public to understand that though. They're not elite athletes, competing at the highest level.

They all seemed to act in a dignified manner when receiving them on the stage. Honestly who gives a flying fk what they do with them after that? Some people just look for any excuse to have a go and it’s most probably Russian bots who start it and idiots who think they have a point.

I don't think it a good example to set kids. And if they minded so much about losing they should have won. I feel the same as I did when Manure did the same for the Europa cup, it made them look petulant and childish. Accept it graciously and then never look at it again if you don't want to.

I also think that there were only one or two of the players who did this had any game time.A bit frustrating for the others who did not get on the pitch.

Losing a final is a bitter disappointment especially when you've not actually been beaten fair and square. Losing a penalty shoot out is a lottery so no wonder they're crestfallen. I noticed most of those tweets were from women who in general don't get too down about a defeat as men.

It’s just a show of disappointment at the time , sure when the dust settles they will be proud to have a silver medal and to play in the final. They may never get another chance and that’s all they’ll have to show for it
