From What I saw John Stones didn’t put a foot wrong, what more could he have done.

Arguably MOTM against Germany and hardly put a foot wrong whenever called upon. I'm not sure a headless chicken would have featured in the meanest defence in a tournament where we only conceded from a direct free-kick and slack marking at a corner.

He was in that back three for his pace and it worked a treat alongside Maguire and Stones.

I love Stones, but I'd have put Maguire in over him if it's only 1 of the two.

I'd have picked a back 3 with Stones Maguire and Bonucci though and taken out one of the centre mids.

You’re forgetting the times he was caught In Posession and the stray passes which resulted in counter attacks with him out of position.
No way in this gods earth did was he better than John Stones . His pace got him out of a lot of trouble no doubt but team of tournament ahead of JS ?

I’m happy to sit with Jose and the UEFA committee who picked the team on this one. I’m not forgetting anything, I’m remembering how brilliant this team were defensively and how Walker was a huge part of that - especially against Germany and again in the final.

Not paying too much attention to the Ukraine report you shared. Think it was two shots on target for them and a thoroughly dominant England display.

Not just the Ukraine report though is it ?
You seem to be selective , what did Jose think of Shaw at Man Utd and a few others on his latter managerial posts ?
If Shearer had given Walker as much attention as he did Stones who did nothing wrong happen his mistakes would have been more highlighted .
You’ve selected two games and if you were to re watch those games you’d hear the commentator on a few occasions mention woes .https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www....news/kyle-walkers-euro-2020-weak-20967695.amp

Not really that selective. I’m pretty consistent in praising this England squad and defending them where they deserve to be defended. I thought your ‘headless chicken’ reference wasn’t a fair reflection of his performances and the Jose article, which is one of many, was for more positive about Walker than the MEN one was scathing - it basically just flirted with being critical without really saying it.

Interesting that you’re comparing a Mourinho comment from yesterday to one from three previous jobs ago. Does it help if I use the same media as you and add Cesc Fabregas to the mix?

Defending them? I was having an opinion on a player and other people have had similar opinion of .
He came in for criticism from the commentators during the match also as well as praise .
He gave the ball away in awkward areas on a few occasions which was picked up by commentators but Shearer once again decided to only concentrate on Stones wrongly saying he was wrong side for goal , no other player got criticism only Stones .
My opinion is Walker is like a headless chicken at time and gets out of a lot of trouble with his pace.
It’s also a criticism from some of his club supporters as well .
You can trawl the board as much as you want condemning posters valid opinions as your crusade to (protect players ) but it is my opinion it’s not a maverick one.

Maybe I interpret what you write completely wrong, apologies if so, but you say some strange things or use strange choices of words to give an opinion if you’re not criticising. Calling someone a headless chicken would naturally lead to someone defending that player no?

His pace is his biggest attribute. It’s natural that it gets him out of trouble. He had a superb tournament.

Spinnazola was the standout defender to me in the tournament before his injury

Standout player and not just defender for me. From the group stage him and Dumfries of Holland were incredible.

If you trawled our forum you’d find comments saying Woodrow is worth twice as much as Ivan Toney and after a game they’re either all due their P45’s or all Premier League stars in waiting. Forgive me if I don’t take the Blue Moon Forum that seriously, I see your point, but regardless he had a superb tournament. The latter part won’t ever change.

    In your opinion,
As I say he got himself in situations other players hadn’t got the pace to get out of and probably wouldn’t have got in those situations in the first place .
I thought Southgates defensive formation helped him especially Philips .
Brilliant tournament because the whole defence was brilliant and Although Walker did ok I didn’t think he did anything brilliant individually and that’s my opinion.

I do think Walker had a good tournament, but don't think he's technically good enough to continue at such a high level when that pace starts to desert him.

Although there was no mention that Bonucci was Maguire’s man, who he let score without any challenge. Stones had his man, wrong side yes but John was touch tight.
