https://www.skysports.com/football/...and-wanting-to-help-others-avoid-his-mistakes This article explains a lot. Plus it's a reminder that there are often deeper reasons players 'flop' than simply being lazy and overpaid as we fans sometimes assume. Glad to hear he's been sober for four years and has his life back on track.
I was at that Preston game, berating the players as we put in a spineless performance losing 2-0. Treacy was picked out for some time after his stint as being a poor signing who was only here to pick up a pay check. Little did we know..
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2015/january/keith-treacy-leaves-oakwell/ Quite blunt and to the point when he got released a few weeks after the Preston game, with no explanation given as to why a two year contract was ended after about six months. Glad he's doing OK now. Football as much as we love it isn't the most important thing in life.
do not think the bum hole Keith picture spread around probably helped his state of mind, good luck to the lad ,no wonder he as not got a phone , it was from 2011, an ex girlfriend got someone to hack his twitter account and put picture on, he tried to laugh it off, but apparently got dogs abuse wherever he played from fans, good old twitter ruining lives since 2006
Thank you for sharing this, I remember Keith Treacy as a player but not being at Barnsley. Sad, but too common a story of people with alcohol and substance abuse problems. Hopefully his and wife's life will be better.
It didn’t seem right at the time. He’d played about 30 games as Burnley got into the Prem & then we got him on a free & he was useless. Imagine if him & Jennings would’ve anywhere near their best in the same side as Hourihane & Winnall. Would’ve been exciting
Sometimes you have to reach the very bottom of the pit before you can start to climb out of it. I am so grateful I haven’t fallen that far before trying to get out. He seems in a good place, what does football matter in those circumstances?
