Just chatting with my kids and wondering why there aren't more of them? Most kids have bikes and enjoy cycling. Seems quite a white middle class sport.
Maybe because cycling in groups on today’s roads is quite dangerous? Plus the younger kids like to go on the ramps in the skate park.
Barnsley Road Club (since 1924) & Birdwell Wheelers have been around almost forever There are more clubs that appeared over recent years so we are well covered in Barnsley for most types cycling. Never heard anyone say they are middle classed
Thank you. Not seen anything about that before but it seems as though they are looking to the kids in the wake of the Tour we France and Olympics.
There are loads of cycling clubs, UK cycling has one with over 1000 local groups. Near me in South Derbyshire there's Mercia cycling club and Lloyd's cycle shop has a group that do regular rides; many local independent bike shops do organised rides. I'm in a group of CAMRA cyclists, we do Friday night rides once a month with several beer stops.... https://www.cyclinguk.org/groups-listing
Dunno, I've never tried. It can be difficult cycling with 6 or 7 pints of real ale in your belly though.
It's too hilly to go touring around the western half of South Yorkshire unless you are a seasoned rider. I think it puts most off from road cycling, it did me as a kid. Hoyland to Bawtry was furthest I managed and that is towards the flat. Off roading is a different kettle of fish.
