Dont bother. Buy yourself a blade beer machine. No messing with gas or anything n take alot less space.

Also depends on what you want for cost.

Ive seen people spend 10s of thousands doing a home bar and then stick a blade in.

Why? Get a proper cooler and pump.

From what I cans see, the cost of a pint in a blade or a PD is nearly what you would pay in a pub anyway.

I get a barrell for 134 quid. 88 pints. Maths certainly on my side.

Personally think you’re better just buying 440ml or 500ml cans if you’re doing it for the cost. You probably lose around 10 pints with wastage, line cleaning and cleaner, etc. and if you even stretch the one week rule on quality to two weeks you need be knocking back 40 pints a week. Even 20 pints a week only kicks the keg once a month, and at that point you’re getting an inferior product in my humble opinion.

Cost me about £300/£350 all in a few years ago for beer cooler, lines and 2 pumps. Kegs then cost owt from £120 to £170 a keg for 88 pints. Kegs on legs at Grimethorpe is the place to buy your kegs, deliver to your house as well. Decent selection.

Blade keg is 8 litre, which works out at 14 pints. I normally buy 6 at a time for about £28 a keg. So £2 a pint and the initial cost of the blade, roughly £360. I’m not a salesman for Blades but they are very easy to operate, simple and serve a decent chilled pint.

Home Bar Services set mine up, absolutely love it. Its a Moretti beer pump, and John who owns it is from Hudds and a top bloke, dont take any looking after, just clean lines every 2 weeks takes 20 mins

got an 18 year old son and 16 year old lass with lots of mates . No chance of a keg going off but even with just me and wife and our friends it’s not a problem. Beer from a pump is better after a month than a can. I know absolutely loads with home bars, could do home bar crawl lol. No one I know sups a full keg in a week or at least no one does because they think they have to. There’s 1000s of folk in these groups on Facebook who say same. I know people in Trade will disagree .

Small clubs like rugby clubs/ cricket clubs don’t dump a keg if it’s not used in 3 days or even a week

Yeah not sure where wastage of 10 pints comes from, might lose 1 cleaning lines, and the keg lasts 6 weeks from opening, aslong as its sealed properly, although we use an 88 pinter every 3/4 weeks

Comes from 22 years working in the industry and knowing where the best tasting pint will come from and how to make sure you’re a pub that always serves it in top condition. I wouldn’t drink in a pub doing less than 50 pints a week of one line. Personal choice though and you can’t always find that kind of info out!

Three days for cask. Four days at a stretch.

Your talking about the pub industry not the home bar industry lol. It’s a new breed who don’t give a **** about beer tasting slightly different after a few weeks. Honestly don’t know anyone who wastes 10 pints :D

can also say I have had far worse pints in a busy pub

I was basing it on 1.5 pints from line cleaning x 4 and then four pints a month pulling through if that’s how long it’s taking to shift a keg. Especially when your kegs are being stored at ‘room’ temperature.

The heat of the last two weeks will have caused an issue and accelerated keg deterioration for sure. I know loads of people are doing it, trust me on that considering the impact is has on my industry, but there’s some rank pints being poured but it’s mainly cooking lagers to be fair.

At the minute, we buy cans direct from breweries and vary it from month to month to try and share. Means huge variety and it keeps well for a lengthy period.

If I was able, I'd be going in pubs and putting the profits back into their pockets given the horrible time they've had the last 16 months.
