That's fair, and if we end up with all 6 forwards mentioned and sign a CM/LWB, then I'll be more than happy to have my cake and eat it. There might also be a chance that he uses 4 of them in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Woodrow playing as a 10 anyway. But if something had to give, I'd prefer to someone to replace Mowatt either directly or indirectly by getting a LWB in to keep Styles playing centrally. Now that we are signing forwards with a bit more experience, it would be good to see a pathway for u23s to progress in that position, having previously been blocked by the fact we were signing 21 year olds to go straight into the first team squad for a spell. Hopefully that will come with time.
That's making a big assumption that Marsh and Thompson are capable of being first team back up in a Tier 2 side at the moment. Their next step will probably be a loan move to a lower division club. They are just names to flesh out an argument as things stand at present.
But at some point, positions in the squad like 6th or 7th choice forward, will need to be players from the academy. Where they can get the odd chance to show what they do as back up to the first team. Otherwise the wage structure becomes unbalanced. Cameron Thompson is 21 now. If he's not good enough to be our sixth choice forward, at what point should he start to look elsewhere for first team football?
I seem to remember big Val saying it was a lack of quality finishing that ultimately cost us last season. Seems perfectly good sense to try to upgrade our strikers.
I'm not sure how much of that is solved by just replacing the strikers though. Our best chance of getting a clinical finisher is probably to get the best out of Woodrow, who will hopefully not snatch at as many of his shots on goal next year. Also, one effect of such a high press, with every player in the other team's half is there isn't as much space to work in. We were probably set up to create better chances for the wing backs than the forwards last season.
I wonder if he knows Obbi Oulare. Looks as though they have Warengem in common and are both Belgian. Could be pals, or just coincidence?
Woodrow, Morris, Cole, Oulare, Iseka. Run with that n get rid of rest. Simoes, Freiser, Vic etc arent up to it. Effort from a couple is good but not upto championship football.
Better quality players will always make things look easier. Morris and Dike were an upgrade on Chaplin and Vic last season and hopefully the new lads will prove to be too. Woodrow needs to kick on next season which he is well capable of doing. I personally like how the club are doing things.
If we did have scouts looking at Zian Flemming it would be great if they got a bid in for his team mate George Cox who is the LWB for Fortuna Sittard. 23 Year old English LWB who started out in Brighton before heading out to Holland
Agreed, freizer does alot of chasing down and gets through an incredible amount of work.Keep him and bin the rest.
Had a chat with a mate about that very subject...wen ya looked down the team last season certain players looked like Top end Championship, Woodrow Brittan, Helik, Anderson, Palmer, Styles ,Morris,Collins, Williams.... Kitchen looks like hes in too..sadly some looked top end LG 1 Chaplin, Victor,Freiser (at times) Simones... and some who didn't feature but will struggle to break in anyway like Millar...new buys have a positive feel and could be the key to top 6 again...thing is we rated most of team ln our opinion as top end players.
