Andersen's injury might have scuppered things though.

True. Depends how bad an injury it is, and if there is a bid for Helik, how big a bid it is.

I'd be shocked if we didn't sell one of our better players. And it sounds contrarian, but I think it would be counterproductive not to.

If this model is to work, we have to sell at peak value, or over peak. Thats really very difficult at the moment as the wider market has had something of a collapse. Where that helps us retain, it doesn't help us offload or refresh.

In cash terms, we've the outgoings on the Hull/MacDonald legal fees and penalties. Thats £1m+. We've fees for 2 (soon to be 3) new signings (Cole I think was free). We've covid losses of a whole season without fans (just about), and we don't know how much the new coach cost.

We've gained compensation for Ismael and modest amounts for coaching staff. We've had an uplift in ST's, but is that offset more by increased player wages? And we've the Chaplin money, which if paid over his contract, doesn't bring in much cash in the next 12 months.

The way our wages have increased of late, I'd assume that we have a deficit without selling a player. It's impossible to quantify the covid losses, but I'd be surprised if they weren't more considerable than we might first estimate.

For me if our defenders play well, and kitching steps up then it could be January when some clubs will.offer silly money.

Andersen's "injury" might be a smoke screen?

It will be interesting to see if we see silly money given the pressures on more clubs now. Someone touched on it earlier that Stoke, Wednesday. Wigan and Brum have all poached players from us, elevated ages and paid moderate fees to do so. Those same clubs can't do that as readily. Even more so if we stiffen our spine.

You also get to the stage in January where clubs may think again (unless desperate) and wait til there is just 12 months left on a contract where we get twitchier and the price comes down.

I think Styles has 2 years plus an extension year. But I think Woodrow and Helik have 2 years without an extension option. If we want to get top value, it probably has to be this window. I don't want to lose either. But the reality of our situation as has always been, it's very difficult to pay the wages other clubs can, even with tighter fiscal constraints for several clubs.

I replied because you suggested all three might be gone & whilst we need to trade to sustain, I fully understand when we have to move a player on , you are right to mention Brown last season but he was the only player sold in that window whilst we actually brought in the likes of Helik , Morris & Kane & yes I did read your post as a dig at the club to which I might have misunderstood but I think there has been a definite change in approach to transfers in the last couple of seasons & I believe the days of moving a cluster of star players at one go is a thing of the past , I hope !

That we've secretly sold the real Mads to Rotherham for £750,000 and we've replaced him with the other Mads Andersen, who is actually a chess grandmaster. We're currently working on getting him up to speed before the end of August as he'll have to slot into the first team once Helik gets sold to Millwall.

We have got money in for VI, so maybe we don’t need to sell.

My intention wasn’t to suggest that I thought all three would be sold, just that I would expect one of them to be, which is what I meant when I said that I would be surprised if nobody out of those three would be sold. Sorry for the confusion.

Don’t believe rubbish written on Twitter unless it is from, eg Doug O’Kane, Andy Giddings! Of course, it’d be completely true if it had been in the Daily Mail! Oh … hold on… no it wouldn’t!

Maybe we’ve done a London Bridge on them and sold the Chess Player to Rotherham

If we do sell any i think it'll be closer to window closing, surely managers gonna want to see all his players play in competitve matches, woodrow signed a new contract when cardiff came sniffing so unless he's gonna miss out on some mega wages he'll be totally proffessional.he just happens to be our top scorer who im sure he'll get more if were playin football.

That would be a canny bit of business! When Mads first appeared a couple of years ago I was sure we'd actually signed the chess player by mistake, so little did he look like a footballer.
