True but look at kayden Jackson that time we got him similar to miller/green couldnt get a kick. Was sold or let go then he came good sold for 1million to Ipswich and we had a decent sell on in there so ended up making a profit. So eventually young players like miller etc could come good after they leave and make a profit.
We have to balance the books somehow. You never want to lose your better players, but we can't keep generating losses on players while buying more players with such a nominal cash buffer. Something has to give.
It hasn't worked out for the lad here. But there's nothing wrong with people simply showing how thoroughly decent they are by wishing him luck in his future career, rather than being vindictive and plain nasty.
It was an attempt at humour. But just saying "it was undisclosed" wouldn't have been amusing to me. Let's say we paid £500,000 for him. Then he scored/created goals, helped us stay up, then reach the play-offs and let's say we then sold him for £500,000 - all told, I wouldn't call that a loss, personally. Same goes for Ritzmaier to a lesser degree. He came in with us bottom of the table, and played pretty much every game as we stayed up. But in fairness, both he and Sole were Struber's signings. The club doesn't stand in the way if a coach wants a particular player, but then you do risk a new gaffer coming in and not rating them. There's no perfect formula in terms of recruitment, or selling players and so on. But I would back the way that we've done things in that area for a number of years. It's much better - in my eyes - than the nonsense going off at other clubs. I heard Sheff Wednesday were financially knackered and had rules on how they could recruit this summer. Yet I've seen them loaning players left right and centre. Lee Gregory next. And don't get me started on the other club that should have been relegated.
I imagine our cash flow is better than most clubs in this league don't forget we sold jacob brown during covid times aswell. We have just sold near on 11k season tickets but if we do need to balance the books we have a few assets we could sell styles, helik, Britain, cauley and I can see bids coming before the window shuts with big domestic transfers been done like Ben White from Brighton, cantwell set to leave Norwich the money will trickle down.
Nobody seems to be taking the players view on things. Its not a slave trade industry. As for the board the phrase "damned if they do and damned if they don't" comes to mind.
Can't blame the board really it wasn't a spreadsheet signing was one of strubers mates just disappointing
Fair enough , I simply recalled the middle bit of that quote and simply took it at face value. As for the manner in which players are judged to have been of value... there are plenty of ways they could be presented that could suggest a loss wasn't as heavy or that there had been some form of pay back. One way is very subjective, the other, if we treat wages as revenue and what you're paying for the player to perform, and the fees incoming and outgoing as a way of looking at losses (seeing how they are amortised in the balance sheet and a profit/loss is crystallised in the P&L). It's no secret the club is suggesting to create value by playing the transfer market to create profits to reinvest. It's a noble aim and won't always work. We've all been fans long enough to see catastrophic dealings and lucrative ones. It's simply the more losses we accrue from this approach, the more we have to make profit on others to claw back those losses. So to succeed, when it works it has to work well, and we have to mitigate the losses as much as possible. I'm not going to pretend I have a magic formula, because I absolutely don't. We've done ok ish to date. But we've also made plenty of losses as well as turning over a few players for something of a profit, and none since Jacob if I recall. And absolutely agree about other clubs excesses. It's almost like they are addicted to this way of being and are happier finding ways to flout rules and guidelines than actually getting their affairs in order to be compliant.
It may well be better than other clubs. But as I've posted several times before, review the cash position over the last 3 years and its dwindling pretty swiftly. The last thing I want is for the club to be reliant on borrowing when it doesn't need to be.
"But I would back the way that we've done things in that area for a number of years. It's much better"- Kinda sums things up really. We've made progress on most fronts these last few years. Long may that continue. It would be churlish to suggest otherwise.
Luckily nobody is being nasty saying good riddings etc. He cost a hefty fee, wages, did very little and now been paid off. I wouldn't wish anything bad on him but just wouldn't wish him luck when he's been a big flop.
I dont think we paid that much for him anyway and nobody knows if we've paid his contract up or received a loan fee last season. I'm sure with the squad we've built we'll make a lot more money than we will lose.
I agree with the last part we have some good young players and like I said previous with some big domestic transfers gone through and more happening now qouldnt be suprised to see the money trickle down and bids come in for them.
Aye, and had we sold him in January for a million, you’d have been complaining. Club can’t win sometimes. Trust in the plan, we’re better run than most teams in this division.
We are slowly moving up the transfer ladder and I fully expect one of this squad to break our record transfer fee received. Its also refreshing to hear new signings speaking about promotion to the Prem being the target after years of treading water.
