    You're right it's not a current teacake but it is a currant teacake. A currant teacake without currants is called a teacake. I once took a teacake, a currant teacake and a breadcake from Whites bakery to work in Sheffield. Totally baffled em :):)

    As a hub of London's Bangladeshi community, Brick Lane has always been famed for its many authentic curry restaurants. It now also has a reputation for its warehouse art exhibitions and trendy clubs and bars.

    Bugger. Been down their loads of times. Thought I was going for an Indian. Bit of a mouthful "going for a Bangladeshi."

    There"s a place in Sheffield. ( forget its name ) Does South India cuisine. Struggled with the menu. Told the lass our tastes, and said surprise us. Finished up with a typical indian lol. Enjoyed it mind.

    The last bit of your post sums it up though, the muchness we get in the UK when its nothing like it where the cuisine originates.

    South Indian (and there are variances depending on where you are and which coast) is very different and you'd know the difference from what you'd find in your average takeaway here. Dosas are delicious, but you rarely see them in the UK.

    You also get much lighter dishes, often using coconut milk. Fruitier in flavour, More fish as a base. but often things without meat or fish at all. Use of tamarind and often tangs from vinegars.

    Anyway, must run... got to rustle up an English for dinner ;-)

    My sister lives in Lanjaron (south of Granada Andalucia) the food there is like in most of Spain but they have their own specialities one of which, surprisingly, is fish and chips. In fact fish and chips were introduced into Britain by Spanish sailors....
