I thought that maybe he meant Jordan Williams but harsh as he has played well at times in Championship games
For me I think it’s time to part company with Victor and Miller. Victor seems a genuine willing player but is the exact opposite of a ball magnet, as it bounces off him and misses his feet , he misses way too many chances for Championship level too. Think it would be kinder to let him find a club at a lower level where he could hopefully thrive. Miller, he did some decent stuff last night but his crossing was shocking most of the time and just looks too ‘ordinary’ to influence a game
He did do well. He started the game really well and the majority of our positive moves came from him making great runs and holding his position superbly. Also made important interceptions. His crosses initially weren’t bad at all. But after a couple in towards Oduor at head height yielded nothing, he started trying to go low and hit the first man. A run of about 4/5 bad ones in a row. But improved second half, marginally, as we just weren’t at it. Great 50 yard run with the ball only to find that his release balls were Vic who didn’t make the run and Oduor who kind of just froze (but picked up the rebound). Also a great cross for the Cole header.
Victor had a contribution last season when we were rotating 6 strikers. I can't see him figuring in the first team again. Same with Miller. I'd keep Oduor as an impact sub on the left of the front 3. Ben Williams I expect to be a key member of the first team squad, if he can stay away from further injuries.
Agree pretty much with this' i would like to see williams get to full fitness then look again but i've never really seen the player in Odour that others have seen' he looks tricky but nearly always runs into trouble flattering to deceive' Miller clearly not championship standard and Victor as had ample chance but he just doesn't seem to have it unfortunately although the forwards brought on last night looked very poor also but they deserve the chance to prove their worth....
Would be interesting to see how many games Brittain puts 4 or 5 bad balls in, in a row. I suspect it would be higher than expected, but because he has the credit in the bank he doesn't get the criticism for it that somebody trying to establish their place in the team would get for the same performance.
Before we had height in the team we’d regularly be putting bad balls in to the box because we’d be trying to go low, deliberately, which is much easier to block. Brittain rightly gets a free pass because he also regularly puts in a pearler as well.
Don’t agree re Oduor. He has potential. The other three aren’t good enough at the minute. Victor has all the physical attributes to be a nuisance, but his first touch and close ball control mean he’ll never make it at this level. I wasn’t a Ben Williams fan before his injury, but I’ll give him time. Miller didn’t even look good enough for League One.
I remember Sibbick against Wednesday at the start of 19/20, he was *****. Look at him now though. Trust, patience, games and support.
And what exactly does he do to demonstrate that? He’s hardly played at all and you write him off? WTF?
The whole model of the club is to try to find undervalued quality. The move to longer contracts means that those with quality can be potentially sold for much greater profit as they have significant time on their contract. The problem that arises from that is when the identification process fails (this is inevitable as no system is perfect) and the club ends up with players who arent up to first team standard but on four year contracts. It’s very easy to say get rid but, but who to? How does the club move on a player who has a guaranteed contact for a number of years. One down side of the longer contracts is that the club will have players on long term contracts that don’t meet the grade. Moving these on will mean a significant financial hit, or hoping that these players can improve and make the team. I think that’s where the club are at with a number of the players given outings last night.
Got to agree with this Ben. The words "plays too many minutes ......." makes the rest of the sentence irrelevant. He simply never got a look in last season. If anyone has to find his feet, Oduor deserves that privilege. i think he could have a great season. He impressed me mostly last night.
I think in the play offs, he put plenty of overhit crosses in as well. But my point wasn't really meant to be having a go at Brittain, I think it's right to give him a pass based on his performances. My point was that I think some people, consciously or otherwise, judge a player's performance based on who the player is and not what they've done. Had Brittain had the exact same performance last night, there would've been more focus on the good things he did, but Miller puts some bad balls in, as all wing backs do, in his first competitive game in that position, and he's written off.
Oostende, Esberg, Thun and Nancy. God help us if they buy a more senior club than us, we'll just get their reserves on loan.
Hardly writing him off so wind your neck in a little. I've said elsewhere he's talented, but if you can't see a weakness in his attention span then I'm not sure what else I can say. It's the same reason he was brought off three times in the first half under Struber, but back then he really was a young kid. You'd hope that side of his game would have developed or show signs of developing. If he plays 90 minutes it's perfectly fine to say 'too many of those minutes' were spent doing something. You thought he played well last night and was our biggest threat, I just have a different view. It's clear he's got talent, I just don't know if he has the application. It's like you're screaming at the TV for him to make a run, take on the ball, or just realise we're in danger and he needs to get back. The exact reason why he can't be trusted at LWB.
These crosses came one we started having players to actually aim for. I think overhit crosses are more forgiving than the ones that hit the first defender. You're on the money though. If Brittain played like Miller last night it would be a 7/10.
