Yes! Brilliant pies. Been to the ones in Leeds, Sheffield and one in one of the local pubs to me. Never had a takeaway, but the ones in pubs are usually boiling hot. Love them.
They are ok but I think they've gone down hill over the years. On the rare occasion I have a pie, the Charlie Bighams steak and ale ones are what get my vote. Sainsburys TTD ones were better too I thought. But then I prefer shorter crumblier pastry.
Wilsons of Leeds do the best pork pies they call round to my workplace in a little van. Absolutely delicious.
It's dangerous enough that we have an M&S simply food right on our door step! Thank goodness for shielding!
That's good. You can pop in every 5 minutes to see if the steak pies have been reduced. Very nice gravy with bacon lardons in it as well and as far as I know made in Yorkshire
Might have to try one on the next Ocado shop. Well, when winter comes! And if it's naff, its all your fault!
The one in town is essentially just a pub that serves their pies, it isn’t an actual Pieminister restaurant like the one in Leeds.
While we're on about pies, how do some places get away with calling them pies when all they've got is a puff pastry lid? Pies need a side and a bottom.
Mother in law brought me a ‘pie’ from the butchers a couple of week back. Pathetic attempt, no sides, no bottom and barely any gravy. Might as well have got a tray full of shredded steak meat.
Ah, I don't even know where it is in town. Just saw it on Uber Eats. Didn't realise it was a chain either. Probably give it a miss
Farmer Copleys steak pies are excellent. Voddens of South Elmsall do the best pork pies in the area. St Agnes Bakery in Cornwall does the best pasties
You can essentially hire their stuff for your pub, to save on putting together a menu etc. They have their own restaurants as well, and my Mrs says they're the best for bottomless brunch too as they don't skimp with the prosecco I'm seemingly in a minority, but it's one of the few chains I do recommend.
Sorry.. Have to strongly disagree about the best pork pie.. mcquillans at the crossroads in Royston are the best by a country mile. I am lucky with work to travel round the UK and nothing anywhere beats them. The owner is the nephew of Hector Ellis who was a legend at Bretton. My customers from Glasgow. Nottingham. Birmingham and Liverpool request them regularly when I visit.
Pie night on a Monday at the Crown & Anchor at Barugh is good value and well worth a visit. Once had a haggis pie there on Burns Night - lovely
