Why do people tend to say 'The Arsenal', we don't say the barnsley, or the everton, or the whitby. Is there a reason behind it? Genuine question mate

He came across as a top man off the pitch as well in those interviews that @Loko the Tyke did during lockdown

Because an arsenal is a noun?

They’re not named after a place, they’re named after a ‘thing’.

And I always thought it was from the Woolwich Arsenal, but it’s the wrong end of London, and I’ve no idea… but someone will

    WOW. Fantastic scenes.

Proper inspirational. Fair play to the Brentford fans - that’s one special night they’ve had. Would have loved to have been there myself.

10mins after final whistle, only the Arsenal fans have left - no one wants to leave!

It’s weird because I had this nailed on as a game Arsenal would lose because they’re Arsenal but I still think Brentford will probably go down.

You couldn’t pick a better first home game. No shame if you lose as they’re a big club but at the same time they’re soft as **** & a bit all over the place with transfers

Totally agree, 2 main strikers feeling poorly sounds a little iffy too.

I think they’ve always said “the Arsenal”, supporters, media etc. I don’t know why

I’m not as daft as I look then.

And my dads response would be ‘nobody is that daft’

I don't get this Brentford love-in. They went up, we didn't. I hate them.

Well, ok, I don't hate them, but I couldn't care less if they do well or not. I'm not sure why I'd want to wish them good luck. I have tremendous respect for Ethan Pinnock, but not to the point where I want to watch him in action for a different club.

    Is it just me?

Interestingly this is also the year we lost out on promotion to Arsenal despite finishing 2 places above them as it went to a vote. Arsenals chairman was a well connected Tory MP and got enough votes to get them promoted over us and Wolves. Another reason to hate the Tories!

I think it is you, Pinnock was excellent for us & conducted himself in a manner that Barnsley fans respect & therefore he left the club with the majority of the fans wishing him well , I myself will always take a look when he is playing , I also think a lot of our fans can see a similarity with us & Brentford in the way we have done our time in the bottom leagues & perceived as a small club by near neighbours which brings the David versus Goliath out in us all , we love to see the underdog do well as it gives hope for all clubs , long may Brentford & their fans enjoy their success .

Yes! I like their style of play, they've stuck with their manager, first time in 70 + years they've been in the top league, they're giving the players they went up with a chance. Juat wish it could have been us instead.
