How well did we play? looking at the stats, Coventry were the better team. Eight bookings….how many were deserved?

    changes for the Luton match?

Well we defended well but have got to say that Coventry are a decent side and a bit of quality finishing we could have lost. The ref was absolutely the worst ****** I have ever seen.

They could have been 2 up in the first half - they deserved a point. Bookings... mmm some odd ones

Draw would be a fair result, but I don't give a monkeys. We deserved something to go our way after some extremely questionable officiating.

In fairness, a few of our bookings were genuine - but they should have had just as many. Would like to see a replay of the Woodrow incident off the ball as well.

Coventry created 2 guilt edged chances in the first half and should have scored at least one of them. we created 2 and did so level at half time would have been about right
Second half Coventry dominated but didnt create a clear cut chance - had one free kick that produced a good but nothing special save and were gifted an injury time penalty which I dont think they deserved and we wouldnt have been given - I didnt think it was one as it looked like Williams played the ball. We ground out a hard earned win but another day it could have been a draw or even a defeat

Wouldnt change much for Luton - expect Morris to be out so hope one of our new strikers is fit as Oduor was poor as a replacement - otherwise I might be tempted to start Victor - or change shape and just play Frieser and Woodrow up front and play Palmer Styles and Benson in midfield

I'm trying to be realistic. I think some players were off the boil today. Styles, Brittain and B Williams weren't at their best. But, none of them stopped running and working, and the clean sheet is evidence of that.

Other than that, Brad Collins is basically Buffon, Helik is basically Bobby Moore, and Palmer is basically Zidane.

Like I said, trying to be realistic.

oh forgot Bookings - ref was a joke Coventry got away with a lot and should have had 4 or 5. We probably couldnt argue 4 or 5 either but at least 3 or 4 were laughable

I wouldn't say we were clinging on so much, quite a few of their shots were speculative.

Once Morris went off we were lightweight up front, however the midfield looked very neat and potentially inventive. Kitching was excellent right up to the point of his MoM announcement. He then made 2 or 3 howlers (he was shattered by then).

Was desperate for him to do well, but B Williams was the weak link.

I thought it was more of a 4-3-3 with Brittain as defensive mid.

Shows it wasn't obvious then. We can agree on the 4 in defence :)

Thinking on Odour was more on the right.....

We almost went to 4 4 2 just before half time and then reset in shape to 3 4 2 1.
Then towards the end, J Williams was LB, then Kitching, Helik with Sibbick at RB and we had Brittain covering behind Styles and Benson.

Got away with it today other than the goal I thought we struggled to link our play up

Ref was useless. Did nothing first half when we were being fouled left, right and centre. Then booked every minor infringement second half.

We defended well but they won every first ball in the air midfield and every second ball. We looked lethargic and allowed then to come forward so easily.

A lucky win for me and we will need to do much much more on Tuesday and beyond.

Weird one for me. Chuffed with the result. Not that convinced with the performance. Created two chances all game, need to improve. I'm sure we will!

a well earned 3 points against a good coventry side when a draw would have been a fair result. a good bonding experience for the group. they now know what we expect at oakwell. Palmer outstanding.

We'll play better and lose but with the crap refereeing it turned today's win into a very enjoyable one.
Points on the board while everyone learns their roles and finds form can only be a positive.

I thought Coventry looked good on the telly the other week. They've got some pace Android link up moves but their finishing was poor. Collins was my MOTM, didn't put a do it wrong and saved that vital Pen. Being in the Ponty I could only really see Ben Williams defensively first half and I thought he did a good job. Kitchen looked solid and Styles creative. On balance of play you'd probably say a draw was fair but we got the goal and they didnt. Chuffed for Frieser, he works hard and deserves to get the reward!

edit a word on Shcpp. He gave a good interview on radio Sheffield after the fane, seems very calm and measured and knows where improvements are needed. Think he'll do ok.
