I knew he was a grafter but in person you notice a lot more of the off the ball sprinting he does chasing down defenders than you do watching on tele. He’s got some engine on him
I think Dom is a very good team player, he won’t score many goals but he does the dirty work and never stops running. Probably not a popular opinion, but he works hard off and on the ball, which results in opening up opportunities for others.
Really underated player is Fridge. Seen by many as one of the fall guys when our new signings are up to speed, but he runs all game long and is probably one of our fittest players on the tests the club do.
You say he won't score many goals is that because he can't finish or doesn't get on the end of things?
Thing i like about Dom is he plays his role Well and doesn't veer into trying to overcomplicate things. He plays the position he is asked to and gives 100% in doing so. He hasn't played many 90 mins but seems full of energy and this season has worked himself into the right position to score several times. We might see a bit more in the goalscoring sense this season.
I say that because he is not a typical selfish forward, he is always looking to bring others into the game rather than have a shot, which is something I wish he would do more often.
Of the front 3 he was objectively the best one, be interested to see who gets dropped, if any, when the new boys are fit, I’d say at the moment only one space up for grabs.
The thing I like about him is that he's looking to get in behind defences which should result in him scoring a few more. It'll be interesting to see the dynamics of the front 3 when the new lads get involved.
That finish though was coolness personified imo. Kept his head knew where he was going to put it and executed as though it was the most natural thing in the world . He got into good positions last season and blew it on many occasions with either a too early run or a blast to anywhere . I think this could be his Oakwell coming of age if his confidence stays the same . Obviously it will depend on how the team are playing but I’ve my fingers crossed for him this year .
I like Frieser, he seems like he's got a great attitude and I think he's got some talent. His finish yesterday was great and his goals against Wednesday and Bournemouth last year were both taken well. Just need more of them.
I think he's one of those players who's numbers suffer for the sake of the team and his role in the team. Lad can clearly finish, his goals have been very precise finishes in tough spots coming in off that right hand side. But that's not typically where our goals/chances come from and he's usually pressing or doing work off the ball so doesn't score many. I thought he looked off the pace against Cardiff but showed tenacity, work rate and composure yesterday. That's all we can really ask for.
Looking forward to this too. Last year Palmer played a few nice balls through which nobody was running onto, and from what we've seen it looks like Benson might be able to do the same.
I like him aswell. He seems to be more popular today than he was 2 or 3 weeks ago, when he was on a lot of folks lists to get rid of. Some even questioned what he does for the team. I expect he'll have to keep scoring to keep them quiet.
I suggested last week that he had a huge role to play for us this season as part of the squad. Both in terms or his ability and work rate but also by laying the benchmark down for the new signings. I wouldn’t say that opinion was vilified, it wasn’t that bad, but it definitely caused my notifications ticker to ramp up. Cracking goal. One of my favourite players.
We have a very decent side at present. Would love to emulate or even improve on last season, but a top ten finish would be a good acheivement. AND we have age on our side too.
