I was beside myself with joy to be back, while the semi finals was a little taste of normality it wasn't quite it. Yesterday was a magnificent return. I went to the pub with my dad, was able to order a beer at the bar and drink it and enjoy it with a pork pie. We walked up to the ground and I saw Oakwell peeping above the houses. I sat with the people I've sat with for years and was able to catch up on the last 18months with them. I was giddy with joy at it all.
Me too, great to be back to my first match at Oakwell for what seems like forever. And the new season ticket holders, I think its always good to have your first match as a win with plenty of atmosphere.
Myself and the two blokes that sit on the same row as me greeted each other like long lost brothers- quite emotional
Query about the gate. Varys between 14 and 16 thousand depending where you look. Can you provide the correct figure?
The roar of anticipation when Frieser broke through and the subsequent celebration when he scored was magnificent.
13,961 (1,719 away). No idea why Sky/BBC etc have gone with an extra 3,000. Can only assume they misheard the announcement.
Apart from above point there were plenty of others for me Being there for one- bad spell of Covid a few weeks ago and didn't think I would make it Seeing Barnsley for first time in 18 months- bit different Seeing parents first time in 12 months - kids were with me so it was quite emotional Got there at 2:10 - walked in no queuing - card worked! The minutes appreciation for those no longer with us- applause on 5 and 15 minutes as well. Coventry fans joined in - really good gesture Seeing a crowd in good voice- first goal and the noise which seemed a massive let off of steam , emotion Palmer - he has a big future in front of him. Some fantastic touches Helik and Kitching - very solid. Can't wait for Mads to join them Penalty save and the three points
I saw some very heartfelt reunions and received a finger crunching big handshake from a few familiar faces. Quite apart from the win and the last minute penalty save (which were the very cherry on top) it was a wonderful return.
3 points. Great atmosphere. Battling spirit. Superb goalkeeping when needed. They only had 2 shots on target, the penalty & the free kick from the edge of the box. Had those gone in we would have lost. Coach realising we need to improve. Frieser's sublime strike.
When was the last time we started a season in the second tier with a win & a draw in the opening two games?
I was hoping someone would say it, then I could claim "Yes, you're right" even though at this moment I can't remember!
I don't mind admitting, I nearly burst into tears. It was too much. That swell of anticipation and the release when the goal went in was a bit much.
