Just after some advice / recommendations for a new vehicle. I had a 14 plate Vauxhall Mokka (diesel) but now looking for something else. I've got a 21 plate Peugeot 5008 courtesy car, lovely vehicle but it's not economical to run! General requirements: Decent boot size, economical to run, I currently commute from the Holmfirth area to Rotherham 3 times a week so I'm doing approximately 40 miles a day. Any advice on the following finance options Personal Contract Purchase, Personal Contract Hire, Hire Purchase or personal loan.
Obviously the 5008 is gonna use more fuel than the milks, it’s twice the size. What sort of size you wanting? Are you looking at diesel, petrol, hybrid, electric? On the financing, contract hire appears to be the cheapest option, but I’ve never done it so can’t comment on the ease or otherwise. Hoping to next time (if I still need a car)
Similar size to the Mokka, diesel or perhaps hybrid. I'm not really an expert on cars at all! I was happy with the Mokka until someone ran straight through the back of me on the M1 and wrote it off! Unfortunately I wasn't given a choice on the courtesy car which is rather frustrating but that is going at the end of this week so I need to sort out a new car fairly quickly.
I'm similar to you. I lease a Volkswagen Tiguan - it costs me a fixed sum every month, but no maintenance bills and after the end of the lease I send it back and swap for something else. I'm probably paying more than I should - my mileage estimates didn't include the country being shut down for most of the last year and a bit... But, it is a fixed amount that I can afford, no unexpected bills, and its good for the long trips to visit my daughter at uni.
My wife has always been a VW fan (she’s had six). Her previous car a Tiguan, very good. Her replacement is the Skoda equivalent, a Karoq. It has a VW engine, gearbox and most things mechanical. The thing is, it is better built, more ‘bells & whistles’, more reliable and cheaper. It has also been voted best medium SUV by ‘What Car’. It’s also worth looking at the Seat version, the Ateca.
Same. I treat myself to a nice car - my first ever lease. Signed up for 36k miles. Then renegotiated down to 24k. Was really hoping to hand it back with 23,999 on the clock but I will be lucky to hit 20k before the lease is up.
What are the extra over charges in your agreement if you were to go over the mileage allowance? There's so much info out there!
Hired a ford edge in canada a year ago, it was superb. That will be my next car i think when i can afford it. Huge boot, decent on fuel, automatic even had air con cooled and heated seats. Plus satnav was brill for me.
Usually the over mileage charges are laid out simply, but the smart thing to do would be to plan on doing more miles than you think. That way there’s no surprises at the end.
Bit confused by the Diesel or Hybrid bit. Are you still in two minds on if you want to try and save the world or try to destroy it? In more helpful advice I rented a Puegeot 2008 recently which was great. Looks a similar size to the Mokka compact-SUV.
Get a job nearer home or a home nearer job. I know I'm being facetious but I had a 20 mile commute for 20 years and absolutely hated it, I should have moved nearer to work but I get that moving house for a job that might not last more than a couple of years is a tough decision. I blame it all on Norman "on-yer-bike" Tebbit. The last 4 years where my commute was actually on my bike in my local area, was possibly the happiest time of my working life, even though my last job was minimum wage.
Skoda Octavia, great to drive and a massive boot. Available as a diesel, petrol or petrol hybrid. Or if you want to save the planet, go electric with the Skoda Enyaq
Yes mate, will be getting a second hand one anyway. No idea why theyve stopped exporting them over here.
Cheers, I honestly don't know and appreciate where you are coming from with emissions etc. Certainly going to look at Hybrid but it will come down to cost. We're a family of 5 so the finances won't stretch too far. Not looked at Hybrids before.
Difficult to know what to pitch until we have a better idea of your budget to be honest. Are you looking to go for new, nearly new, or well used?
What Red Rob was referring to is that you are considering diesel, which is considered bad for the environment, or hybrid which is considered to be a nod towards being kinder to the environment. But clearly, it seems the choice for you is based on running cost, rather than environmental impact. Which is fine, it has a bearing.
On cost, any hybrid or electric car will cost more up front, a mild hybrid should be a bit cheaper to run than diesel, plug in hybrid, bit cheaper still (but depends on your journeys), and a full electric is cheapest to run (even more so if you can get solar panels too). I appreciate that the above is loads to think about, but you might find that (for instance) a PHEV on lease is less £ per month than a diesel on CPC including fuel, and that’s one way of being kinder to the environment without spending ‘more’.
VW Skoda and Seat tends to be 3p per mile if taken directly from them. Other companies can be much more. Most dealers will match online prices if you ask so you can then get the cheaper additional miles.
