Dropped a relative off at terminal 1. Pulled into a vacant bay, took suitcases out of boot, shut boot and drove off. Took 30 seconds tops. Charged £5 for the privilege. The robbing barstewards should be boycotted except there's not really an alternative. I'm sure it was free the last time I did a drop off.
It's a complete rip-off because they know people have no choice. £5 up to 5 mins £6 up to 10 mins £25 over 10 mins!! "Pick Up & Drop Off Information & Charges | Manchester Airport" https://www.manchesterairport.co.uk/parking/pick-up-and-drop-off/
Easy solution don’t fly better for us all haven’t flown in 5years myself don’t intend to for rest of my life
Yes been persuaded by other things happening in the world to change that to what I’ve said previously
I’ll put my cards on the table - when we were bringing up kids, foreign holidays were few and far between, but there’s loads of the world I want to experience before I die. As a general rule I do what I can for the good of the planet, but I’m not sitting out my last 20 years in a rocking chair staring at the garden just to reduce my carbon footprint.
Drop off at Manchester is actually free, but not directly at the airport. You have to park at Jet Parks, a mile or two away, and your passengers then take a free shuttle bus to the airport.
I only use Manchester Airport as a last resort - i.e long haul. Leeds or even better East Midlands are my first choice (if you'll pardon the pun there). I didn't fly for about 15-20 years so I don't feel bad about getting on a plane every couple of years now.
Another unpopular opinion from me possibly, but I'd rather do European trips by train were it possible - better for the environment, and being cramped into a Ryanair seat for 3+ hours isn't my idea of fun. So longer is better - I've done the boat to Rotterdam. A lot of messing, and an all nighter, but in general a better experience. I've done the Caledonian sleeper - takes all night from London to the North of Scotland, but you're saving a nights accommodation and you're technically getting another day away as you arrive in the morning. If you could go to St Pancras and board a train at 9pm and wake up in Spain, Italy, South of France, Malta* or Germany, wouldn't you do it? Especially if you have a cabin for you and your family? No long check ins. Time to relax not a rush in the airport. You can get up and walk down the carriage. - No ... just me then. * Infrastructure would need to be built in some cases.
I spent 36 hours on a coach to Lloret de Mar (and then back) with uni on sports tour and now I shudder at the thought of what you just suggested. Worst experience of my life (the travelling not the trip). The rush to the airport would be replaced with a rush to St Pancras, I’d find it much more stressful to get there than a 10 minute taxi to Leeds Bradford Airport. What’s changed my life is not checking in a bag and just taking a carry on small suitcase. You can check in online and then you literally turn up at the airport, go through security and just step on the plane and when you get there you walk off the plane and straight out of the doors. It was a really weird experience the first time, I felt like someone was going to shout me back any second for forgetting to do something or other. It saves hours of time and zero stress.
