80% of his goals are from open play

I think once Cauley has Carlton and one of the new strikers playing alongside him then I'm hopeful the goals will start to flow again. Most frustrating thing last night was seeing him play with his back to goal so often, did play it off to create a couple of chances though.

It's clear Cauley needs someone to feed off. You need to build a style that suits your best players. I think back end of last season Morris & Dike were those players and Cauley was fitted into the deeper role & he still contributed plenty. The last two games the style of play has not really suited him as an attacking threat. We are only 3 games in. He needs to be running on, rather than back to goal to do that. That means knock downs or high quality balls into space.

Difficult one with Woodrow. I can see both sides of the argument. He was in a successful team last season and to my mind he didn't contribute enough. His best spell was in L1 when he was a foil for Moore but that was 2 years ago. He has been under 4 different managers since then playing differing styles and as I say he's not contributed enough other than being excellent with penalties. He's a striker but he's not striking enough.
On the other hand, who's better? Morris is out for goodness knows how long and, although I don't know the stats, I would assume Adeboyejo and Frieser ( who have both had reasonable spells in the team) will have an even worse goals to minutes ratio. We dont know what the new guys are like and Cole hasn't played enough.
In other words he's not productive enough but he's probably the best we've got. If therefore he's the best we've got then we are clearly weak up front.

Rather than a lack of effort, my opinion is the opposite - that Cauley is trying too hard. He's trying too hard to score, so holds on to the ball and gets caught in possession. He's trying to win too many free kicks, so makes himself a culprit in the referee's eyes, rather than a victim. He's trying to lead the team by example, so drops too deep looking for the ball. To me, he looks to be carrying a weight on his shoulders. I'm not sure this thread will ease his burdens much.

Top scorer in the last 3 seasons. We'd be f*ked if we didn't have him.

49 goals for us - 10 of which are penalties.

79.6% of his goals for us are non penalty.

Why just last season? You look at a players imput while he has been at the club and don’t cherry pick a particular season. Still about 60% even then tbf

Bit if daft argument anyway. Penalties still have to be scored and count as a goal. As Dike found not always easy.

Behave , a striker is employed to score goals from all over not just the spot , defenders can score them, so on last season alone we could have had a defender with at least 6/7 goals from the spot and our top scorer on 12 (I think ) not the best stats now are they

Well Mowatts gone, so they have to turn to another. As usual one or 2 have to criticise aspects of his game that are clearly not lacking, to promote their agenda. He’ll never win with these. Have a good game, ‘abart time’ bad games will result in what we’ve read yesterday and today.

If you think our strikers, especially last season, are employed just to score goals, then you may as well just stare at stats sheets instead of watching games

I think sometimes people on here just don't know the game at all , arnt we has a club working from spreadsheets ? Which I don't agree with . Football is based off talent which is why we used to have scouts ,now I'm not saying cauley hasn't got talent what I am saying his he's been **** for a few years ,that's it , end of

It dont help playing wide alone or behind strikers. Our best goal scorer for a while and they do that. It really grinds my gears

As it stands, Woodrow is our best striker. He has also proven he can do it at this level. At a time when our other options are Odour, plus two unfit Belgians, Miller and Adebayejo, I’d be all over trying to encourage our proven scorer.
