100% agree. As bad as Millwall. Play off semis when we did them 4 - 0 (Brucey D the Destroyer) - the most frightening walk back to the car after a game of football I've ever experienced. Absolute thugs - 'effin and blindin' at women and kids, spitting etc.....; and this was after they'd charged our end at the end of the game with the police doing nothing. During the game their fans were in the upper tier above us and they were throwing coins and bottles into our disabled fans area. In addition to that, I once got laid out by a Birmingham fan: Birmingham Exhibition Centre. I had taken my team out for Christmas Dinner. BCFC Supporters Club had a function in an adjoining room. We finished our meal and were sitting chatting in the bar. They finished their do and a couple of complete nob heads started hitting on three of the girls in my group. We moved table twice and they followed us and started getting more abusive. I went to the Bar Manager to complain, got a tap on the shoulder , turned around and the next thing I knew I was on the floor recovering from a crack to the forehead with blood all over. The scumbag dropped me one and then ran off. Five stitches to my head. I wrote and complained to BCFC and what did they do? They wrote back with an apology and offered me two free tickets for their next home game. Sorry for the rant, but this is my Pavlov's Dog reaction whenever anyone ever mentions BCFC!! I need treatment.
That's a very kind offer. It would be lovely to meet you as well. Let me see where I'm at later in the week and get back to you
So my suspicions around the limited capacity on the other thread are true, Doyle's really has run out of goons.
Yeah but it was a fookin tremendous day wasn't it? One of those that still brings a grin to the chops.
Youd guess - let me guess if you are a brexiter or a remainer surely if it was as simple as stewards losing their jobs whilst there was no security work due to lockdowns it would be a simple matter to rehire already trained people. The fact is as pointed out elsewhere there are large sections of the low paid sectors that cant get the staff, be it in restarant/bar work, agriculture, caring etc and it seems stewarding falls into the same category. Im guessing that the Stewards who have left Doyles employ are spoiled for choice now and have taken other employment. For that reason I would guess its 80% B word 20% Covid. Its not necessarily fair to blame Brexit as such - its the particular Brexit "we all voted for" and implemented by Johnson and Patel, other versions of Brexit like those advertised at the time by Vote Leave would not have had such a damaging effect.
Of course Covid has played a big part , people being pinged & having to isolate at short notice has effected all workforces , we have just got our green bin collections back after they were suspended because of staff shortages , incidentally I am just using this as an example not a comparison & peoples are still catching the dreaded disease , my son tells me his workforce is still way down because of the pandemic .
The fact that the club or the security firm they employ don't pay enough to stop people leaving for other jobs isn't really a random factor over which nobody has any control. More like chickens coming home to roost.
I wonder why it's negatively effecting us more than other clubs. There were 2700 Dee dars at Charlton the other week and 3000 away fans at mk Dons last Saturday and they're clubs in league 1. 2300 away fans at Hillsborough in the cup. In the championship nearly 4000 forest fans at Coventry, 2500 Birmingham fans just a few miles away in Sheffield and 2500 millwall fans at qpr. Why do they seem to have enough stewards?
I like how the club will look into sourcing stewards elsewhere after a fan suggested it. It would be quite impossible to think of that idea for themselves...
Do you honestly think most of the stewards at Oakwell were foreign nationals? I'd hazard a guess that 90+% were locals mainly of school age. I used to have a natter to some on my way up to my seat and and every single one had a local accent. Maybe it was different in other stands but I doubt Brexit was a major cause and more likely they've found other jobs after the ground's been shut for 18 months
They haven’t had work for 18months due to Covid. And the fact that stewarding is not regular work. A Deliveroo or JustEat job, if busy, pays more and is constant, not once a fortnight. Same with working for Amazon etc. No different to bars and restaurants.
