The middle east is a volatile melting pot that the west has had a direct hand in partitioning and agitating regularly. But we also have provocateurs in Russia and China, in different ways. Maybe the US and UK realise what a pointless exercise it is and have decided post covid, its an easy way to save money. I've no idea but watching the images of Afghan citizens clinging onto the wheels of a plane taking off is... well.... i can't think of a descriptor to do it justice. Its yet another example of a shambles that we're growing ever more used to, particularly since 2019. Maybe we just have to wait for someone to overthrow our corrupt government and save us from westernisation.
Good post we should have never gone into Iraq and the whole WMD was a smoke screen same as we should have stayed out of Afghanistan. But once you go in and stir up all this it becomes your problem so to pull out and leave the Afghanistan citizens clinging to planes trying to get out of the country and away from the taliban is inhumane and wrong. And I'd definatly agree the world is definitely in a worser state security wise prior the the Iraq war.
Same in Vietnam, "We don't have to win, we just have to make sure we don't lose". History is a lesson (and Afghanistan is littered with them), but as long as enough time has passed governments can proclaim a threat and invade countries and get away with it because the media bangs the drums of war and people are as thick as mince.
We have a foreign secretary called Raab who was on holiday in Crete costing £40,000 for 1 week who did not give a toss about British Citizens trying to get out of the country, £40,000 is a big chunk of anyone's wages wonder if he was gifted it by some Tory donner for favors, but this ***** voted against free school meals for the poor and yet he or some donner splashes out £40, 000 on a weeks holiday disgusting if you ask me.
I read that earlier. It's thoroughly grim. I find it staggering that something where speed is of the essence, we've put in a scheme where only 5,000 can leave this year, but over the next 4 years, it could reach 20,000. But of course, it won't reach 20,000.... because many of those people will be dead. All sort of reports of people being murdered as the taliban go door to door. Images of an empty aircraft this morning. A german journalists family member murdered after they'd left and the journo is back safely in Germany. People denied access at the airport, people denied crossing roadblocks. But it's ok, our Foreign Secretary, and deputy of the Pm (so not sure why they were on holiday at the same time!) has made a statement which basically confirms he didn't make the call the media accurately reported over the last two days, but matters overtook it and his team were well on top. A backbench MP today was quoted as saying Raab had set a very high bar as to what he should be contacted for while on holiday. But the good news today... one of dePfeffels 48 new hospitals is being opened by Sajid Javid. Well... its not new.... its a cancer unit at any existing hospital. And it was set in motion in 2017, before dePfeffel was PM and before he made his pledge. Hmm.... so not that great at all really, just more lies.
Hopefully history judges these charlatans for what they are. Unfortunately, it'll not help these poor souls in the interim.
Disgraceful and totally inept, as you might expect. Any government worth a damn would have offered those translators and anyone working for the UK government/military free passage to the UK, before the decision to leave was in operation. As it is they've just been thrown under the oncoming Taliban bus.
Could it be that when they look at the up coming public enquiries for brexit and covid etc, they're ballsing Afghanistan up on purpose in order to flood the public enquiry system and so get away with it?
Biden is a geriatrric that can hardly string a coherent sentence together. The USA is a spent squib under the useless Democrats.
