When we signed them I asked if there was any issue regarding work permits.

Someone on here said as they were U-21 or had played representative football at some level that there was no issues.

    Ah well

The Visa issue. Although I was told it was only one of them. Then again , Chinese Whispers.

Point being there’s no way people at the club were unaware of the situation. I’m not ‘in the know’ generally I hasten to add. So if I know something then I assume a lot of other people know as well!!

Out of interest, forgetting these are Barnsley players for a moment, does anyone think based on political beliefs that these two shouldn't be granted work permits? Are the rules too strict?

I thought it would be interesting to see if there were any precedent or similar situations to Oulare and Leya Iseka. I’ve had a brief look at the signings into the Championship for this season and there has hardly been any from Europe.

The only player I can find is Joël Piroe (signed for £1.8M) who scored for Swansea last night and has so far played in 3 Championship games.

Last season he played 11 first team games for PSV in the Eredivisie but these only totalled 124 minutes and he played 1 Europa League game for 90 minutes. Also he’s a Netherlands U20 international but didn’t play any international football last season. Previous to last season he only had 18 Eredivisie appearances. He signed on 02 July 21.

If Piroe can get a work permit - with that previous experience - then I don’t see how Oulare or Leua Iseka can’t. The only difference is that he signed earlier in the window and therefore would have been processed earlier.

    For reference:
Oulare played 12 games for Liege in the Jupiler Pro League totalling 478 minutes and played 5 Europa League games (194 minutes) last season. In total, he has over 100 first flight appearances in Belgium and the Netherlands. We signed him on 26 July 21

Leya Iseka played over 20 games for Metz in Ligue 1 last season and has over 100 first flight appearances in France and Belgium and signed on 02 August 21.

I agree they was aware, they did say when they announced Obbi he’d failed but didn’t expect any issues on appeal.

What a total mess. The club lying to fans absolute cluster. We have signed players that currently cant work for the club and there is nothing to show they will be able to in the near future. Absolutely dropped the ball on this one. But to clearly lie to the fans in this way is disgraceful.

It's all a bit complicated but piroe gets 12 points for playing for psv, 3 points for qualifying for the champions league qualification rounds and 3 for making it to the round of 32 in the Europa League taking him over the 15 points required.

Oulare gets 12 points for playing for standard Liege, 2 for making it to the group stages of the Europa League, didn't play enough minutes in the Europa League to gain any points and according to transfermarkt appearance stats should have 3 points for his minutes played in the league which would give him enough points for an fa enforcement. However there could well be an issue regarding his minutes because it states he missed every game from from December onwards due to an injury and then coronavirus that ruled him out for 3 months which is something the club has to prove when applying for the GBE however that claim is somewhat undermined by his interview when he joined us which stated that he was ready to sign for us in January but travel restrictions prevented it and that he trained hard from January to may which kinda goes against the being injured and 3 months of coronavirus claims on transfermarkt. If there is no evidence of him being ruled out of just one of those games he doesn't have enough minutes played to gain any points and therefore doesn't get enough points overall to satisfy the GBE criteria

Not only the club but our HC has been spouting tosh & before anyone says the club told him to , I would say they are guessing , no one knows for sure but one thing for certain is that it isn"t good to mislead your fan base .

if we are applying strict immigration controls on other professions I would say we are near the limit of saying we couldn’t get a similarly qualified U.K. player to perform the same duties. We may have to pay more for them and pay them more but why should a football club be any different to any other profession.

Haha yeah. Taking back control. I’m sure all of those who voted for brexit for reasons of immigration, (which is a decent number, though I’m not suggesting all, let’s not go back to that debate), are delighted that their democratic choice means that clubs can’t sign footballers. That’s what they wanted…

Bet they’re delighted to see the poor Afghan refugee families coming over and being looked after too. I mean it’s almost as though we had control of our borders when we were in the eu anyway, that we will take in immigrants regardless and that what they voted for was an absolute smokescreen of bullshi.t? Surely not?

It wasn't my intention to turn this into a Brexit debate by the way!

True, but I'm wondering whether the rules are too strict across the board in all industries. The automatic eligibility and free movement for EU citizens has been removed, which was surely the main benefit of leaving in terms of immigration. But if an EU citizen has a job lined up with a company/club then I reckon it should be made fairly easy for them to qualify. Not everyone thinks like me mind you.
