Poor fielding at times by both sides and dropped catches you would expect to be taken. Sickening end to the game though with the crowd fired up and singing at the tops of their voices, then woof......who put a pin in that balloon? It was like the Reds are drawing with minutes to play then take the lead on 90 minutes and look like winning and Oakwell is bouncing. Then (Sheffield United/Wednesday/whoever) equalise in the 92nd minute....and then go straight down the field and get the winner a minute later. That's how it felt.
Gale has his hands tied with never being able to put out anything like a full strength side. In the four day game we've done well with players missing. We had a good Royal London cup with mainly our thirds due to international and the hundred. Tonight we would have had Malan if the test side hadn't been so bad. All that said we are the biggest county and should still win trophies more often. They have dried up since the Dizzy era which we will never be told the truth as to why it ended. Because he was homesick yet two minutes later ended up with another county? Hmmm. We made a lower order batter in Khan look like Christopher Henry Gale in his prime.
i originally thought 1 over/10 runs too short, but we don't know what the outfield was like with dew & damp ball, but we looked horrific on telly interested to hear mark butchers comments in the morning, he was scathing of us pulling in the boundary ropes pre match, but personally it made for a better game and didn't really affect the outcome, just knock around 20 runs off both teams score and probably not much difference full size comms were critical of cadmore's batting, but he stayed there til nearly the end and on over a run a ball 50, if it'd been joe root, they'd have been in awe of it
I think he did right to stop in and ve the steady Eddie or we could have ended up losing all our wickets the way we started! It was tight.
Bloody England not satisfied with nicking our players they then steal our ground robbing us of home advantage! Can’t be another sport that would stand for it, it was only a 20/20 they could surely have popped it back to after the test
Agree re kc. Salt was doing a similar thing but got out as soon as he tried to accelerate. The riverside looks terrific usually but the boundary alterations spoiled the look for me at least. Yorkshire's total looked a bit low at the break but would have been sufficient had the fielding been anywhere like what you would expect from professional players. Hope you enjoyed it, the atmosphere seemed to pickup towards the end, only to fall flat.
I'm not sure Root, Bairstow and Malan were the issue. Ferguson was the biggest miss, and the fielding was awful. Not sure why Willey doesn't just bowl his 4 at the start of the innings because his bowling at the death is woeful and his moaning at the umpire about a wide, after bowling a bunch of 4-balls was embarrassing.
Lyth wouldn't have got a game if Root. Bairstow and Malan had been available. Truly awful this season.
I did enjoy it as my first 20/20 experience. It was interesting seeing the camera men do their stuff and their were some spectacular fireworks when Sussex were batting. It was a bit disappointing to not have any scope for run outs or quick running between the wickets due to the ground being so small.
No doubt, but they still made a score that they would have defended with competent fielding. Maybe Bairstow would've made a difference with the gloves.
Curious tactics with the boundary. Run outs would have been unlikely with the standard of the fielding.
Young lad wanted the ground to open up when he dropped that catch. Took a good one a bit later though.
