https://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieu...v-strijden-om-handtekening-goaltjesdief-ugbo/ Fairplay to the lad. He's made a name for himself since his loan with us and now has the bigger sides in a number of different countries after him.
You can only play 11 players.. so it's up to every indervidual to push themselves forward into contention. Only the player himself can do this. Some will, but most will fall by the wayside..
Finally left Chelsea on a permanent deal....... https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/2021/08/25/ugbo-leaves-chelsea-for-genk He's done alright abroad with different loan deals.
Yes mate, & loaning a young player is always hit & miss, no matter how highly regarded. Too many factors, not just football. Even George Best went back to Belfast for a while..
Ike Ugbo now, is a completely different proposition to the player we had 4 years ago. He's just scored 29 goals in 60 games for Roda and Cercle Brugge. That's a marginally better goal record to Cauley Woodrow. And he's still only 22.
I think one of the issues he had was expectation. He came the year after Tammy Abraham had been on loan at Bristol City (scoring 23 in 41) and everyone thought - because he was coming from Chelsea - that he was the next Tammy Abraham.
I think he was described by the media as the next Tammy Abraham to be fair. Similarly, it was the media that said Ashley Fletcher was above Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford, and Marcus only got his lucky break because Fletcher was already out on loan to us.
