It’s the and/or bit that confuses me. Is it one or the other or not? A negative test or a vaccination cert or both. Open to interpretation…..
It’s one or the other I travel abroad every 6/8 weeks if possible I’ve had to isolate 3 times over the last 12 months and paid out over a thousand pounds in test fees so I am constantly getting updates and what I have posted is the latest restrictions
that's not what it says tho is it? If it was one or the other it would just say or. The reason it's says and/or as in "and" or "or" is that some countries want both (and) and some want either (or).I think you just happen to have been to countries where it was or. Portugal (maybe) and The Azores (definitely) are and. I think the only certainty here is its a mess.
We went to Ibiza in July mate and didn’t need to take a test to fly out, we had to book a test to return in the resort plus we ordered a day 2 test which we had to take at home once we got back, it’s exactly the same when we go to Greece, both were/are on amber, for our own peace of mind we did take our own PCR test before flying out but it wasn’t a requirement.
You could well be right mate but it’s a risk not worth taking. The problem is that rules are different for different destinations. May as well do the test before departure to make sure we’re covered.
I’ve just read up on Portugal and you are correct, you need both the proof of vaccination and a negative test within 72 hours of departure
It is a mess. In October we are travelling to UK from Italy to visit our , daughter, son-in-law and grand daughter. We are stopping in Innsbruck first night, where we will have a PCR test (in spite of having both been double jabbed and have our EU green passport it is needed for the Rotterdam to Hull Ferry) We are then staying overnight just North of Stuttgart and catching the ferry the next evening. We then have to have to fill in a PLF and take a test 2 days after arrival. The return is even dafter. Even though we have the aforementioned EU card because we are travelling from UK regarded as high risk, we have to have a test to enter Italy. Because we are transiting Netherlands and only staying in Germany for one night and will only be in Germany for less than 24 hours we do not need to register with the German authorities which we would otherwise have to do. However having been in UK within a 10 day period AND in spite of having the EU pass we STILL have to quarantine for 5 days. On top of all that we need obtain a green permit sticker in advance as we have a CAT5 diesel and all cars have to have a green/orange or whatever sticker in Germany. Worse still the hotel I booked for the return in Stuttgart is in an inner city Cat 6 LEZ so I have had to cancel as I cannot take my car to the hotel. Although the EU has a standard policy for most stuff each country seems to make up its own rules as they go along. Information is very hard to find, much of it on differing websites (even offcial ones) contradictory and they keep moving the goalposts. Most websites are hopelessly out of date. Fines for non compliance are steep and it is easy to fall foul of the rules... It is as if they do it to collect revenue for hapless travellers to boost their coffers! As if!! The other problem is sorting it out with 5 or 6 weeks to go , I have no idea if everything might have changed- again- by then. It is a shambles of the highest order but a lot of money is being made by many businesses at our expense both in the UK and Europe wide.
Or indeed do your research properly for your destination. The last stress you need is to turn up at the airport without the documentation required for the country you’re flying to.
Right, settled on Crete. So no test to get in, just show proof of vaccination via NHS app. Return is a test within 72 hours of leaving and another within 48hrs of returning. So looking at gov.uk site this test can be PCR, antigen or lateral flow. Lateral flow are cheapest. Anyone got any advice/ experience on who to purchase from. My thoughts are how do u show evidence at an airport of a negative test from one you've done yourself, as I'm guessing they don't want me waving pots of snot about. Sorry to sound like a thicky, but it's the first time abroad since the world went daft, I'll be an expert by this time next year hopefully. Ta.
Check with your travel provider, they may have a discount set up. There’ll also be the pre flight home tests available in your resort.
Not gone thru a travel provider. Booked a villa independently, always get better deals this way and then flights direct from Ryanair. I'd rather book something before leaving if pos, so I don't have to bother with finding somewhere whilst out there.
We’re going to Portugal in a couple of weeks and in same boat with the testing malarkey. Been told by a work colleague who came back from Spain a couple of weeks ago to use a company called Klarity for the testing kits. They seem reasonably priced too. Not a clue about the one needed by day 2 on return though.
We’ve used TUI for all our hols for the last few years, for the benefit of free changes and even additional money added on if they have to cancel due to Covid. We’ll be back to some independent travel when the world is more normal. There’s a government approved shortlist of providers IIRC just go through it.
