Just loved into a guy wearing a Red shirt on the Prom in Aberystwyth. Without thinking I introduced myself. While polite, he clearly did not want to chat. Fair enough. Just wondered what people regard as the 'correct etiquette' for greeting a fellow Red away from home. I had assumed if you are advertising the fact, then you are happy enough to be recognised.
Seems a bit strange- I'm always happy to meet a fellow reds fan at least as long as they arent drunk and being an idiot
A YouReds is my opening gambit aswell. Then usually a bollocking from my wife because we're "away from football this week"
A few years ago, I was walking down the main road in Drumnadrochit in the Scottish Highlands with my family. I was wearing one of my replica shirts (the one with Barnsley Building Society on the front). From nowhere, this strange woman walked up and threw her arms around me. "Oh, it's good to see someone from Tarn up here. I'm from Wombwell, where are you from?" she asked. "Dodworth" I replied. "You've made my day" she said, before walking away. I then noticed my family had walked off and left me to deal with this lady on my own!
I usually say "you reds" and then feel an absolute twit. Old man walking round during lockdown last year with a BFC jacket. He didn't have a clue what I was on about, I suspect he'd got a nice coat from a charity shop and it just happened to have BFC on it.
Must admit, i have no shame going upto someone and start to talk if I see they are a fan. That’s probably more cos I don’t come across many around here.
The time-honoured solution is to get a large saw, hang underneath the pier and cut a circular hole where they are stood...
