I think this hits the nail. Last season we had game changers to come n and make things happen. This, we're hoping the 1st XI can last more than an hour. We've some tidy footballers, but once they slow down, we've nothing. I'm not unhappy with our starters at all, or our style of play.
What I’m seeing is a decent first 11 who play good stuff in the first half who are seriously lacking some quality off the bench to keep it going for 90 minutes. Every game we seem to fade & the opposition look like they could end up winning it second half. On the plus side you could quite easily replace all 6 outfield subs today with potentially superior replacements if Anderson, J. Williams, Kane, Cole & the Belgians are available so it’s not all doom & gloom
You are correct but am not saying that, we gave away a terrible equaliser and they couldn't finish the chances they created afterwards so yeah, we should have won
i always thought their number 10 was a big stiff, but he took their goal well, 5 reds defenders round him and he was like this feckers off in the net
This Thread and the match day thread, demonstrate the differing opinions of people who witness the same. Independent analysis of today's game is that it was a good game, good advert for the Championship and neither team deserved to lose. Some of the comments are offensive, ignorant and plain stupid. Suggesting the coach doesn't know he's doing after 5 games in the Championship, beggars belief. We can see what he's trying to achieve, by last week's game at QPR and today's game. It takes time,Valerian had the luxury of no crowds,5 subs,he too had no "plan B". 41 games to go,players to return, some supporters sound as hysterical as those supporting the Sheffield teams.
A team of tryers but maybe only 6 who are genuine championship quality. And to a man they seem knackered at 65 mins. Helik and Benson look superb, Styles had a decent game. No matter who we play, they have twice the physicality. We are essentially powderpuff. Lightweight. We do play some nice stuff at times, and given time I hope it all clicks. Still early.
Based on what I’ve seen so far, we’ve gone backwards considerably. Seem to have lost our identity and I still don’t know what our system of play is. This method of playing out from the back is crackers for me. I see no redeeming features whatsoever. Also quite worried that for big chunks of play today, there was no one stood in the technical area. As for the game today, we got away with murder coming away with a point. Feels like it’s gonna be a long old season and mid table probably the best i can hope for
Big Val's plan A was brilliant and he almost instantly turned us into winner's so not sure why you'd mention him.
It’s a bit like South African rugby they have a great plan A and if it fails they go to plan A. Val’s approach didn’t always work but the players knew what was expected. Today I thought we led a charmed life in the second half, good defensively but constantly under pressure as there was limited ability to hold the ball up. As mentioned earlier there is so little to come off the bench to change things. Maybe the break and the Belgians can help build the strength of the team. On today’s showing this season is going to be a tough one.
Losing Carlton Morris was a massive blow to our attacking options. We are too lightweight up front. Hoping after the international break we will have Obbi Oulare available as an option at least. Thought Victor did OK when he came on. I'd have put him on for Oduor earlier TBH, rather than Frieser, but the latter had run far more of the two. Great assist from Oduor for the first goal. He's better from wide positions if you are playing him in a front 3, pushing wide & crossing, like he did.
Good point won rather than 2 points lost...Playing without Anderson and Morris would affect any team. those 2 back and the Belgian players to come says we're not in a bad position...who on here wouldn't have taken a point at QPR and Cardiff before kick off...also a point off Birmingham in recent seasons looks like a result..
