Fitness levels yesterday were as good as last year. The forwards kept chasing their defence down. Midfield covered lots of ground. On many occasions last year we used 5 subs giving a false impression of fitness. sometimes players giving their all for an an hr then subbed. You are obviously going to see the difference in effort. Not fitness. Imho. For what it’s worth.

As other people have said, the 5 subs last season was a great advantage to us with the way we played, Big Val made excellent use of it to great effect, now we're back to 3 and I guess you have to pace yourself a bit more. Besides which, they're all a year older now....

?? The only side we’ve conceded to in the last 30 mins is QPR and in the second half Cardiff (54). In 6 games. Only 3 teams have conceded less goals (in the championship) only Fulham less. in all competitions.

Apologies, you're correct. I meant "not scoring". Not sure why I put conceding.

Fwiw I'm pretty happy with how we've done so far with a new coach and so many players missing.

I’m being told pre season was a bit of a shambles , the uncertainty of Val and back room staff going and Schopp coming in it was 9 a side and head tennis

You need to hit the reply/quote button I think?

Val changed the front three far less often once he knew who his best forwards were. The mass changes came when we didn’t have the reinforcements and it was the only way to make us competitive.

It wasn’t always a case of them being knackered. It was often because the opposition were knackered.

I agree that the 5 subs helped last season but could it also be the fact that we let some decent sports scientists/ fitness coaches leave to West Brom and Huddersfield respectively?
