Yeah I know, I'm the same really, I don't want to see any club do well at the expense of us, but the reality is some of us really do despise the Sheffield teams and they would probably see this move as a huge betrayal. Whether that's rational or not is irrelevant.
It is totally irrational and I think (and hope) you are in a tiny minority if you really expect a player to turn down an employment offer at a side that should be fighting in the playoffs just because the fans of a club he played for several years ago don't like them.
For anyone troubled by this, repeat the following until it sinks in: Professional football is just a job.
He didn't turn down a move to the Fowls out of respect to Barnsley FC he turned it down because he got an offer from a bigger and better club in Villa. Anyone who believes the utter garbage spouted by players when leaving a club is deluded. Unless a player as a longstanding emotional attachment to a club in other words they were a fan first like Gerrard at Liverpool and going further back Steve Bull at Wolves it's just a job and each club just an employer and us fans are just the mugs that turn up every week help pay their wages sing their names and get upset when the piss off somewhere else for more money.
I just can’t bring myself to hate a club as much as some do. They’re a club like us with fans like us and probably supported that team because their Dad’s did… like a lot of us.
I’m sure a few fans with the IQ of a potato would treat it as unforgivable treachery, but there’s a world of difference between demanding a move to our local rivals when still under contract (Winnall), and moving to our local rivals several years later, when looking for one last big payday at the end of a decent career (Hourihane).
Roll your eyes if you like - I stand by it. Yes, football is just a job to footballers. I get that. But I would much rather he didn't go to the most vile institution in the EFL, and, if he does, fvck him. He was terrible in the play-offs, anyway. I hope his legs have gone.
I haven't said that he should turn it down. I'm saying that some people on here might need to readjust their adoration of him
Still dont see why - doesnt change what he did when playing for us or how he conducted himself when he was ours. clearly I hope if he goes there it turns out to be a mistake and he finds himself in a relegation scrap but its nothing personal. Cant say I was thrilled he signed for Swansea either to be fair but thats football.
I do not understand your way of thinking at all, Connor should go anywhere with our blessing, he owes us nothing & to me gave his all for us, he has my total respect where ever he plays , I do not believe we have tried to sign him therefore why would he consider not going to a club because of what one or two of our fans might or might not think . Good luck Connor, hope it goes well for you apart from when you play us.
Agent Connor to navigate relegation and grab a sackful of cash. There's not one person who wouldn't go any where in football for the money. Good luck Conor. It's what a player does in the red and white strip of Barnsley that matters.
They're only "the most vile institution in the EFL" because you're a Barnsley fan, though. Derby fans would give that distinction to Nottingham Forest, Cardiff fans would give it to Swansea etc. etc.
Remember also that Gerrard stayed at Liverpool because of his long standing attachment to his knee caps.
"I love him but i'll hate him if he goes to a rival"' sounds so juvenile' he was fantastic for us and has showed nothing but respect for Barnsley fc' but the fact is' he is going to put his career and his family first just like hecky did by going to Leeds and just what every single one of us would do too..
Isn’t he in the last year of his contract at Villa? That will be another sell on fee that doesn’t materialise.
It was always unlikely that Villa would sell him on for more than they paid us, especially back to the championship
He won't turn a bad Sheff U team into a good one. He didn't even turn a good Championship side into a promoted one.
