Cant find much about him, seems he's been forgotten about somewhat at city:- We have had so many players we think could make it and then never do that I stop getting too excited, Remember Claudio Gomes Claudio Gomes came as a midfielder but played mainly in the full back positions last year. I was really impressed when I saw him and maybe he'll get a chance next year. Will be 21 this month. Didn't he get moved out of position when they moved Lavia up from the U18s at the turn of the year? I recall him being a bit like Kante in the holding midfield, Quite small and quite quick. Looked good in some pre season games but then disappeared Very strange, was a lot of talk about him 2 years ago but havnt heard a thing about him since Saw flashes of brilliance occasionally but i don’t think it’ll be enough for him to make it here. I may be wrong but hope he gets better. All these lads deserve to have good careers anyway
Thanks for the research but Given what I (and I assume most on here) know about our u23 players I wouldn’t pay any attention to what Man City fans are saying about the lad, positive or otherwise.
Those comments sound quite positive to me. Not being able to break into Man City's first eleven doesn't make you a bad player
I would imagine what Man City fans see as a good player and what we see as a good player are quite different. Don't forget, in order to be "good enough" to get into the man city squad you'd need to be able to displace about 5 established world class internationals. In order to get into our squad you'd need to be able to displace Halme.
It took Phil Foden two seasons & the retirement of David Silva to get regular football at City & Phil’s not bad
A few posts about Gomes from the Man City Forum, a bit more than the snippets above and a bit of perspective. https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/search/657075/?q=Gomes&o=relevance
He's clearly a great prospect & been at one of the biggest & best academies in the country I doubt if the option of signing him will come up, but if he can help us out this season, that will do for me.
Interesting that he's played a bit at left back. Possibly signed with the ability to play either role in mind?
My mate coached him at Burnley, he was playing U7s when he was 4 and was the best player, said he'd never seen anything like him, and as you say, took him a while to get established, that's the kind of competition you're up against to get in the Man City squad.
I aint got a clue how good he is. If i guessed i would say to be still at City he cant be bad. I would expect him to have a lot of quality and desire to do well. This could be his biggest test and chance in his career. Nail a good place in the team, play well and help us up the table and worst case he will have suitors (maybe us) to join their team. Best case is he goes back to City with a chance for the first team squad. At his age he has a lot to play for, which is exactly what we want. Also coming over the hills should make it easier for him to settle. I have high hopes and trust in our decision here. With the squad as it looks right now, our starting line up and formation might look somewhat different after the break.
