Last ten minutes we ran out of legs and he never played one sub, he needed fresh legs to see it out. Poor management in my opinion.
Regularly reluctant to make substitutions. Lauded as some kind of messiah but he’s been behind us blowing the last two major tournaments with his negative tactics. Can’t fault his integrity and class for the role, great ambassador for the country. Just think he’s lacking tactically when it comes to the crunch.
No, quite serious. I don't like his negative tactics. Watching England has nearly always been a trial. These days even more so. Sorry, I just don't like him or rate him.
I’d ******* smash it with these players, he’s a lucky ******* Southgate. Could have Steve Parkin managing these and they’d do alright.
He doesn’t seem to see the obvious imo. Fresh legs were definitely needed Kalvin was on reserve . Same in 2018 when it was obvious it wanted Modric man marking and he didn’t . He does though galvanise the team and brings them together but good teams and managers he struggles and the quality of the team pulls through . Just a shame he’s not 100% tactically aware otherwise we would have been European champions looking for a realistic World Cup challenge .
He could/should have brought subs on during those last few minutes just to disrupt the play and see time out. You see it every week in domestic football. Just basic game management.
No need to apologise he’s bloody awful a euro final we should have won he chose to sit hack and soak up pressure for 87minutes that man is an absolute clown and with the best squad in world football we’ll win naff all!! Get back to doing Pizza Hut ads the clown
I hate this kind of argument but anyway I’m going to make it. If we got rid of Southgate who would we replace him with who we could hope would do better? Let’s be right he was a few penalties away from winning the euros and got us into our first semi final in the World Cup prior since 1996. Like tonight, fine margins. Anyone who brings up the quality of players should probably consider how well the ‘golden generation’ did with supposed better managers. also remember the last appointed manager before him was big ******* Sam.
Best group of "team" players we've had in my living memory, backed up by performance and results. All brought about by Southgate. If Allardyce kept the job do you honestly think we would be where we are now. We are occasionally going to draw...or lose a game. Top man who will rightly be regarded as in the top 2 best England managers ever....who knows next year, possibly the best
Big Val is a hundred times the manager Southgate is. I honestly would not have Southgate at Barnsley. He speaks very well, and his players want to play for him, but he lacks something as a coach.
I think he may get better offers than Barnsley when he's done with England so I'm sure you won't need to worry
Relegated with Middlesbrough. The Germany game aside, he has blown it against every decent team England have faced. (I don't count Denmark as being in the elite group. Yeah, they got to the semis, having beaten Russia, Wales, and the Czechs.) Belgium, Croatia, Italy - all butchered, two of them from winning positions. He has had favourable draws in the knockouts - Colombia, Sweden, fücked it against Croatia. The Germany game is the outlier - then Ukraine, Denmark, and fücked it against Italy. Good managers make teams punch above their weight. England, under Southgate, punch below theirs.
