Season 3 was great. It was as of it’s time, as the first & second. The later stuff was good, just to keep up with the characters. Tim Spall took Barry Somewhere unimaginable, but still believable. Am on series one, episode 4- ‘Suspicion’. Classic..
Barry is probably my favourite character. The scene where he is stranded by the road, sitting in Castro’s bath reading Hemmingway, is priceless. If anyone was going to be in a spot it was always Barry. Brilliant actor
The second series is my favourite. Jimmy Nail not only chins big Baz but finds his singing voice too and the leaving present they leave for the pub landlord is priceless. Watch out for Coronation St’s Carla Connor in the Cuba series.
Watched a lot of those on my firestick. Now enjoying watching Spooks on iPlayer, my favourite espionage series. Currently at series 10.
I think my favourite series was the one in Cuba, totally ridiculous plot with Neville and the MI6 and Oz and the ballet dancer but still entertaining. I think it's to do with the characters, everyone knows a Nev, a Den, a Barry, or an Oz.....
The first series was made 38 years ago, in 1983. Which was 38 years after the end of WW2. That makes you think, doesn’t it?
This means I have been in love with Lysette Anthony/Christa for almost 40 years. And that blonde that Wayne bought the chain for only for Neville to end up with it.
I just watched her play Rose, in a decent BBC production of Oliver Twist, made around the same time. She was only a 21 or so, in that: still a few years older than me, so not too weird. Unlike the tennis pervs..!!
