Not snapped up by a Premier League/top European club. We had an option on his signature. We have 5 goals from 6 games. What does this say about the ambition of our club?
It says absolutely nothing because without Premier League football we couldn't afford his wages or his transfer fee?
Mainly rumoured from US Media. I also know that we needed Dike to want to sign for us permanently, which despite his enthusiasm he showed no sign of doing. I do know that it wasn't anywhere near the kind of money we've spent this Summer so would have meant selling one of the 'star' players, which we didn't do. That signals ambition to me. I think, but don't know, that he would have moved back to the Championship if the loan fee money was there. But the majority of teams are skint right now.
I’m not at all surprised he hasn’t been snapped up by a top club; he was miles off being a premier league footballer. If the fee was even a quarter of what was reported, it was still well beyond the means of Barnsley as a Championship club. I’d also expect his wages to be at least double our next most highly paid player.
It says nothing about our ambition , your insinuation would have been more justified had we reached the premier league & then not signed him .
I should have said at least one. I think it's impossible to make a call on that when we don't know enough about the Belgian's and we also don't know how Dike would perform with a completely different style of football. He played well for us but I was equally as impressed with Morris and thought Dike sometimes went completely missing in games. Val's style meant he was always a threat regardless.
Exactly so, Donks. But if he had demonstrated himself to be Premier League standard then I would accept that we couldn't have afforded him. He didn't. So we, with ambition, could have pushed the boat out to sign him. As it stands, we will remain low-rent as a club.
What we think of him doesn't matter one jot. It's what his team value him at - both to Orlando as a club and as an asset. As Patrick Cryne used to say, it doesn't matter what fans think, a player is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I don't know if you've just decided to go fishing whilst the fish are out there biting, but I find this an incredibly poor take.
But what if his agent and his club considered him Premier League standard and his fee and wages demanded as such? Why would we meet that if he isnt Premier League standard, breaking the bank in the process as a Championship club, knowing that Mowatt was set to leave and Val, and that we would likely not be competing for play offs like last year?
I'm as pissed off as anyone with the 5 goals from 6 games and I've made my feelings known about the season so far. But come on we were only ever going to realistically sign him permanently had we got promoted.
Some folk need a proper reality check. Last season was a one in a hundred season. We’re not a top half never mind top 6 side. We’re a self sufficient steady run club who may eventually get back to the big time but in the right way without risking the future of the club. Look at the signings the other clubs in the division have made, Cahill, drinkwater, deeney. its early days for us, I’m not saying schopp is the right man but at least let’s not turn after a handful of games.
Seems even more odd now that Dane said signing him wasn't dependent on promotion and he's still stuck in a poor standard of Football in America.
Moan, moan, moan, moan, moan, moan, moan. Our fans are ridiculous, so fickle. Give it a rest ffs. You have no idea how much effort we put into signing him, neither do I, or any fan. Stop with the negative **** just for the opportunity to pull club down yet again. This board is getting as bad as twitter.
Your 'fishing' jibe implies disrespect for my opinion. I'm prepared to accept I may be wrong, but I think I'm entitled to have an opinion.
