The same interview was broadcast on calendar and look north,

as a side note i went to see him at sheffield just after the ched evans incident and he cracked a joke about him, the audience booed him and he lasted about anorther ten mins before the show closed, i think this has more to do with the shows cancellation than anything else..

Were they booing the fact that he was using rape as the subject of a joke, or the fact he was making a joke at Ched Evans' expense?

When me and Laura went to see him it was the same show. He just cut and pasted current affairs into his old jokes. I don't think his routine changes.

Absolute non-story, whipped up by the hate squad.

I'm sure that if that many are interested in seeing him then another venue will step in to host.

this is the bigger issue for me. I disagree with a council banning a comedian. especially someone as $hit and irrelevant as chubby brown. however I would have to massively question any venue who were happy to host him. that's effectively endorsement imo. I would like to think any venue worth their salt would be saying 'we don't agree you should be banned, but we don't want you here'

in the same way that while the National Front aren't banned from operating, I would be horrified if they pitched up at Oakwell for a party conference.

as for 'the hate squad'. not sure who you mean there tbh. I would say there's massively more hate coming from the chubby brown crowd, than those offended by him. I may have missed your point though.

Bit of a conundrum is this, on one hand I don’t agree with this kind of censorship, but on the other I don’t agree with Chubby Brown either.
For me the bloke was only ever very very occasionally border line funny anyway and that was way back in the day. Have to say never seen home live but a mate lent me a video once, never did get to the end.

Yeah, maybe that wasn't clear - I was referring to the right-wing media trying to turn this into a front in their 'culture war'.

I'd go the other way round, to be honest, if I've understood you correctly - I'd certainly question any venue who put him on as well, but if they're a private business then it's a matter for them. I do think it's inappropriate for somebody like him to be given a platform in a publically-funded venue, however, which I understand is the whole issue here.

I find Julian and Sandy hilarious on Round The Horne along with all the rest of the 1960s humour in that programme, but loads of you will not. But you may have done once.
How gentle is all that from a bygone era compared with Chubby.
It's all about how old we are and what we are told is acceptable now. We are pre-warned about so many things these days so as not to get upset or offended. Sadly nobody is given the chance to make up their own minds.
Can't even watch Emmerdale Farm without being warned about something or other.

It's the Sheffield Theatres Trust who have decided to cancel the show. They're a charitable organisation (as I'm sure you know mate). Nothing to do with the council. It only got linked with the council when someone from the council went public with their support of the show being cancelled when asked to comment by a media representative. It really is a non-story.

He's not banned. A big venue had sold hardly any seats for one of his shows so pulled it. Economics rather than ethics.

Murder dramas don't suggest that murder is ok. Racist performances/"jokes" perpetuate the idea that it's OK to regard people differently because of the colour of their skin and that making negative assumptions and generalisations about other races is fine and acceptable.

It's not difficult to see the difference.

As i say he isn't my cup of tea but he has many fans from all walks of life and no one has the right to tell them what they should or shouldn't like...

Lots of things once considered acceptable, normal, even funny, aren’t any longer. Surely you can agree that’s generally a very good thing?
