For anyone interested here is the very mature Brexit reforms document presented to the house of Commons yesterday
    https://assets.publishing.service.g.../Brexit_opportunities-_regulatory_reforms.pdf

It leads off with the one we have all been waiting for
We can now have a crown stamped on our pint glasses again (spoiler its a good dishonest start as - we already can)

Other highlights are we can go back to selling in pounds ounces and presumably bushels ( see pint glass above for honesty)

And we are going to make flying civilian planes less safe

Im surprised they missed going back to a currency of pounds shillings and pence and bringing back ration books in this forward looking document catapulting us back over half a century

Younger readers could be forgiven for asking: "Was it a really great time here in the late 60's/early 70's?"

Not exactly a golden age, as I recall!

If we are really lucky we might even have power cuts back this winter - not sure if you saw the news story that a fire took out one of our major electricity links with France - usually used to import 2GW of power - it wont be fully back online until next spring
Already we had very little spare capacity and that removes it so if anything else goes wrong we wont have enough power to go round. It makes me feel all nostalgic I loved those dark nights trying to read a book by candle light with just a coal fire for heat and no TV obviously - though in fairness this one isnt Brexit related - just general government incompetence

Well as for the EU, it's a dying thing, slowly falling apart at the seams, growing infighting amongst the member states and it will eventually collapse. Glad we got out early.

As for the energy situation. One good reason to show this country should be self sufficient in energy terms. No excuse for not being so. In fact we should go as far as writing it into law that our countries national infrastructure cannot be outsourced to a foreign power. This time it is fire that has taken the link out, the next time it could be a dispute with the French for instance and they hit the off button.

We have all the natural resources and technology now around us especially given our natural advantage as an island nation to put this into place with a focus on green renewable energy sources.

Unfortunately there isn't a single large volume manufacturer of pint glasses in the UK anymore.

We will have to differ on the benefits of getting out of the EU early (or at least the way we implemented it) or how imminent its demise is but I am fully on board with the Energy situation - we are a net importer of electricity and as you say its a potential problem - a failure of successive governments both Labour and Tory since Thatcher started the ball rolling currently I think our average shortfall is about 6% - not sure what the peak is though

No but we import them from France so they now are more difficult to get here

At least any confusion over whether to switch to imperial weights and measures will be minimised by the fact that no goods are getting into the country to be weighed or measured.

    This troubled me:
    ● Environmental Licencing and Permitting - Defra is continuing to rationalise the existing Environmental licensing and permitting (ELP) regimes so they are more streamlined and easier for businesses and users to navigate, whilst maintaining and even enhancing environmental protections.

And who was it who made it possible for foreign powers to gain control of our national utilities. Yep you guessed it those lovely people in the Tory party when they sold everything off and put nothing in place to stop it happening.

Not into politicsome so just my thoughts, I loved growing up in the fifties & sixties, not sure if it was with the music or space adventure or even colour television maybe the world cup I don't know but there was a certain feel good factor & there was plenty of work about, I left school in 1968 on a Friday & started my apprenticeship on the following monday with a choice of 4 different jobs, I can categorically say for me they were happy days

I’m a bit confused, Britain adopted the metric system in 1965, then switched to decimal currency in 1971, and then joined the European Communities in 1973.

So why are Brexitters making it seem as though we changed because of the EU? They aren’t trying to lie to them are they? Surely not?

They are too busy blaming those who didn't vote for Brexit, it's only 5 years ago.

Well I’m off for a flagon of ale at Ye Olde Shakespeare Tavern on the morrow. After some archery practice in case those Spaniards try it on again.

Duelling to be brought back early 2022 to replace small claims court.

Ducking stools and stocks also being considered ;)

good to see you sticking to your guns despite all available evidence showing it to be an epic disaster. That’s commitment to gotta give you that.

Personally I’m looking forward to the introduction of the Groat and lovely dinners of potato peelings and tripe.

I read in a document somewhere (can't remember where) that seems to sum Brexit up . It said that we are the only country to ever impose trade restrictions on itself!
