Touched the ball about four times at Stoke so not much to go on. Looked calm enough against Blackburn and knew where he wanted the ball to go to put us in promising positions, but twice he messed up and it led to dangerous counter attacks. Hardly played football over the last two years so jury is still massively out and he’s also not surprisingly still got to get up to speed. Would be unfair to rule him in or out but obvious he’s one for down the line rather than right now.
Speaking of players coming from nowhere we’ve had a few going back over the years. Mick Butler from Worsborough Bridge straight into our first team was one, scoring goals for fun. Anton Otulakowski lit up our midfield before Jim Iley let him go and play in the First Division with West Ham. He was working for the Gas Board when we signed him. This lad could be a star in the making. It’s too early to tell
What was it Phil Thompson said about Colin Walker (ex dustbin man) after he crocked him in our great League cup run in the early 80s - 'the lad should still be on the bins'
Out of the pit & into the team. Money is different now, but a chance to make a name for yourself is the same. Take your chance. They don't happen twice that often.
Yet his scoring record was exceptional. Phil Thompson is not someone whose opinion I value to be honest.
Walker crocked Thompson, who had to go off and missed the next few games for Liverpool. David Johnson came on for him and promptly scored, then set up Dalglish for their third.
I just want him to score because you know the media team are itching to use 'Hondermarck off the mark'
