Have to agree' i have been advocating him playing in the middle for ages but i've changed my mind ' he and Benson looked very lightweight yesterday totally over run by the Blackpool lads' so back to lwb for me' feel a bit sorry for Ben because the fact is he's a full back being asked to be a winger' the formation obviously doesn' suit his game...

Williams as always looked a lower league left back and it’s not his fault he’s been asked to perform as a championship wingback

Playing him on the left of a back four will expose him even more. He's not good going forward but he's not really good enough defensively either. Too rash and loses his concentration often.

I find it fascinating that being played out of position is used as a defence for some players, but is completely ignored for others.

For me, Ben Williams is a more than capable full back. I'd say at Championship level too.

He's playing wing back. He's not the best going forward, and it leaves him exposed in behind.

Ironically, the cries are now for Styles to move to wing back, when in the summer, everyone was wanting him moved into the centre, which is supposedly his natural position.

But then again, there's a post further up criticising a player that hasn't been available for selection thus far, so I'm taking this thread very much with a pinch of salt.

I don't think it was too big a jump for people to think that Styles could move inside, once Mowatt left, unfortunately it's not worked out particularly well for him when he's played there.

Can't blame people for also thinking he should move back to LWB when we have Benson, Palmer and Gomes available to play centrally.

I think its a bit unfair singling Ben out when there were far worse performances out there on Saturday.

I've never seen Ben Williams play full back and thought he is a championship quality full back. He tries alot but sadly not upto it and wouldn't get in any other championship side as a full back.

I honestly didn't see the need to move him in the first place personally. We were always going to strengthen in the middle of the park, and Styles did a great job last season for the most part.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion, but for me Ben Williams is incredibly underrated.

Ben isn't an attacking wing back. Whether he is a championship full back in a back four remains to be seen IMO. Benefit of the doubt for now. I think a lot would depend on the midfield formation.

Look at the game v Coventry his defensive quality's aren't great he had a mare 1st half and was getting skinned by there winger everytime he came forward.

Poor Ben Williams. Spent so much time on the physio’s table and when he comes back into the side as soon as the chips are down he is in the firing line and gets dogs abuse every time. He is a left back and being asked to play out of position. Meanwhile, your Bensons, Brittains and Kitchings are held up as works in progress with promising futures in spite of the fact we aren’t performing at all - but it’s not a team effort in this regard, it’s all Schopp’s fault, and Ben Williams’. Once again Ben is tossed on the slag heap - BFC’s proverbial scapegoat. He deserves better.

Agree. There were plenty of worse players on the field vs Blackpool. He isn't & never will be a wing back though.

I think Ben Williams would be better just defending. I was surprised we started with him to be honest. If you're going 3-4-3 you should pick a midfielder. Not push Styles into the middle and play Ben Williams. We had Gomes on the bench and Hondermarck didn't make the squad. A right boost for his confidence.
