Incredibly unlucky but incredible bad management from McLaren. Why did they give him the option on pitting? They’re the ones with all the data and insight, not the kid rallying around the track in a formula one car.
Agreed . By the sounds of things Hamilton did nt want to pit either but the team over ruled him . McLaren should have done the same .
Mercedes told Hamilton to pit after he ignored them the first time. McLaren asked Lando if he wanted to pit. They cost him that first place finish unfortunately.
Hamiltons engineer had the balls to order the 7 time world champion in. Hamilton had the trust in his engineer to follow the order. Meanwhile at McLaren they pussy footed around Norris and he lost it.
Can see what he was thinking but the rain just seemed to intensify so quickly on one section of the track. I'm sure his time will come, he's been exceptional this season. What a great race it was though, seemed to be something happening all the way through.
Lando and Russell will both dominate in years to come once Hamilton is out of the way. If Ferrari ever get their act together Norris is the way to go. Young Max I fear will always been a hot headed driver which will cost him. Put either Lando or Russell in a fast and reliable car they'll win many many races.
I’ve been a big Max fan the last couple of years but I’m starting to lose interest in him with his recent behaviour. Compare Lando going up to congratulate Lewis after the race today, despite pretty much giving away the race of his life, to what you’d see from Max. Night and day.
Not only are Norris and Russell exceptional young drivers gonna be great to watch in years to come. I think mclaren are on their way back which is great to see.
Lando will replace Lewis when the time comes. Which - if he wins a record 8th title - might not be far away.
Three more years of Lewis I think. If he wins eight then he’ll want nine. If he gets nine he’ll definitely want ten!
If Max hadn't got a supremely fast car I'd say he'd be struggling. His overtaking at times is reckless and extremely arrogant. He's not changed, he might go a few races reining it in but his worst demons always win out. Lando and Russell look smooth and calm in everything they do. Big shout out to Sainz as well, he's very underrated. Drives nice and smooth but he's not scared to take risks (but harming others) to get the car on the very edge of its performance. I'm a massive bike racing fan but can appreciate drivers who safely try and max out their ride.
I still want him to drive a Ferrari. Or once he has the 8th, go drive for whoever is at the back, and see if he can have some fun.
Put him at the back in a rubbish car and have it rain every race. Then folk who can't see, what a genius he is.
Max clearly has the talent to be in the supremely fast car but as you say its a temparent issue. He could very well end the season with the championship and you feel if he had been more level headed he would be in a stronger postion right now. Very interested to see what Russell can do in the same car as Hamilton and should be a great learning experience for him too.
