    You should maybe check the news feeds of other european countries to see how severe their driver shortages are.
    Nothing I'm aware of here in Ireland of any significance. No fuel crisis, no shortage of stuff on shelves etc.

    Although you are kinda right, because that's what the government are telling you and the right wing press the reality is not exactly true.

    Heres a polish driver saying exactly what is happening, what the chances of any foreign drivers taking up the temp visa status and how comical everyone thinks our handling of Brexit is.

    So why does the government think they just have to click their fingers & hgv drivers will come running to us instead of taking up the jobs in euro countries which are more accessable to them & not only until christmas eve ?

    Mind you I couldn't get any broccoli in Lidl this week so what do we know?

    Road Haulage Association are reporting 20,000 drivers lost due to Brexit, but 40,000 test cancelled.

    Although this suggests that without COVID we’d not have had a shortfall due to Brexit, it doesn’t breakdown how many of the 40k cancelled test could be the same people having multiple rescheduled test cancelled, or how many of the 40k may have been Europeans who have since gone home due to Brexit as they couldn’t get a license and secure employment prior to the end of last year.

    It's not all over Europe at all, I live in Denmark and there is certainly no problem whatsoever here. I'm also in touch with many other Europeans and they all declare nothing in their respective countries. It's just more government lies from the the Tory scum that got the UK in this mess in the first place. Even the BBC wont say it. Its Brexit!
