Last season was a flash in the pan. No doubt Valerian is a top manager and we were lucky to have him here. We're a second-tier club. We always were and used to finish mid-table in the old League 2. That's the best we can hope for, with the odd season challenging the top ten. We've averaged 52 points a season in the Championship, which means we're a bottom six side. We now need a manager who can keep us up, so we can move towards being a mid-table side again. Alex Neil anyone?
That’s who I’d go for. If the data is telling the club that Schopp is the best high press coach on the continent, then there’s nobody left in that market.
I like the managerial statistics on Wikipedia. Valerian has 55% win ratio. Pep has 72%! Alex Neil 42% which averages 58 points per season.
Best high press coach we can persuade to come for peanuts. A domestic manager/coach will want considerably more money that an Austrian one.
42% of 46 is 19.32. If you round it down to 19 that’s 57 points from wins alone. What about draws? We’ll not get anywhere near 57 points this season at our current rate. Schopp’s current win % this season is 10%
Just saying that we're not likely to find another Valerian, so maybe best to play safe and go for someone who has done okay in the Championship. I see us as a similar club to Preston, Blackburn etc.
Schopp's "Simply the best, better than all the rest" So where do we/they look after him? Wasn't he the no.1 choice ?
Five managerial appointments in three years - all from Europe. All previously little known. So I don't see it.
Only stat from managers we see is win percentage. Expanded: With us: Win % = 9% Draw % = 54.5% Loss % = 36% Not lost % (wins + draws) = 63% Not won % (losses + draws) = 91% As a manager: Win = 34% Draw = 26.5% Loss = 39% Not lost = 60% Not won = 65.5%
So if he manages to transfer these stats to the championship we’d get 58 points? I wish I could see that happening.
