Is sacking Schopp the only option?

when i take on new staff, they are on probation, they have mentors and 'buddies', they are developed in the role. Not all come in and hit the ground running. Maybe what Schopp needs is help and support to adjust to this situation. He's not been dealt the best of hands and he didn't do the recruitment. To simply blame him for the mess we're in is short-sighted. In truth, the Board, players, coaches, and recruiters, and injuries have got us to where we are. There needs to be some unified thinking across the club and honest talking to tackle this. Simply sacking for lack of instant results in whatever circumstances is madness. Having said that, there needs to be an identified level of acceptable performance, so that if consistently not met after appropriate support, the staff is moved on.

Yes it is. If you set on a new member of staff on probation and there is absolutely zero signs of improvement from that employee then you terminate the probation don't you?

Edit: also to add if your new employee, on probation, stood with his hands in the pockets instead of working you'd sack him

Who would his "buddy" be, though? Jose Morais has experience of failing to win football matches at Oakwell with a pretty decent set of players, so maybe he could assist with the transition!

all this is true, but schopp does not seem to have any ideas of which system to play, which players to substitute, how to keep players fit, last season they could run and work for hours but this season you can see them physically fade within 10 minutes of second half starting

He's the one choosing to play players out of position when other options are available and confounding that by still doing it even when it's clearly obvious to most that it's simply not working. I'd have some sympathy if performances were getting better as the season progresses but after the high point that was the first half at QPR the performance levels have been in serious decline it seems the more the players get used to playing the Schopp way the worse the performances get. So yes for me he needs to go.

if you're a central midfielder sat on the bench and the gaffer has a rwb playing in your position what does that do for your motivation and when the rwb playing out of position is getting pelters off the crowd how does he feel, 2 players heads f***ed up, and a crowd wanting blood

It is the only option even if we win today. Out of 20 halves of Football we've only played well in one against QPR. That leaves nineteen halves where we just haven't been good enough. If we had simply been unlucky, performances improving but just not getting the rub of the green fair enough. But nobody can really say we deserve more points than we've got.

Conways never going to come and say he messed up in the transfer window. Schopp will be scapegoated for sure.

If I was getting paid what any Championship manager is getting paid I think I'd have a hell of a nerve wanting a mentor to hold my hand.
There was also enough knowledge within the club to draw on in the form of Devaney, Hassell, Sedgwick etc.

I’m not defending Schopp here, but usually when managers take up an appointment at a club 9 times out of 10 they bring backroom staff with them of some sorts. Seems a little strange that he didn’t. Then again, if they’re from the same planet as him, we’re probably lucky that he didn’t.

I'm normally firmly against sacking managers, particularly after so little time in the job.

He has been dealt a bad hand in terms of missing players. I don't think the recruitment has been necessarily bad, although I'll reserve judgement until we've seen something of Oulare, Vita and a bit more of Iseka and Gomes.

In the summer, the recruitment strategy was to strengthen our attacking options, and as such, we signed 3 strikers and a creative central midfielder. Now whether the forward players aren't pulling their weight is one question, but the style of play they're being asked to play, just doesn't suit.

What was alarming on Wednesday, was how empty our midfield was every time we had an attack break down. Markus' answer to counter this, was to put one, and then another wing back in midfield. His team selection, substitutions and general demeanour all point to him being a bit out of his depth. I honestly think we wouldn't have surrendered the lead as easily as we did, had we brought Gomes on at half time on Wednesday night. Pack the midfield, stop Forest from breaking so easily.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt for the time being. If he starts to play players in their correct position, in a formation that plays to our attackers strengths, then I think he can rescue this season.

The OP was to convince myself that there were things the club could do to improve the situation. This obviously depends on the right things being done and the attitude of those involved. It also means that there has to be something with potential to work with. I've had staff that I've known just haven't got the raw material to work with. This seems to be the majority view on Schopp at the moment.

Schopp’s nowhere near the biggest problem at the club.

    We’re in a mess.

Manager gone, coaches gone, stats man gone, chief executive gone, main physio gone, club captain gone, spine of the team gone with Mowatt, Anderson, Morris & Dike all missing from last year, no one with any physicality (mixed with quality before anyone says Victor) up top.

I don’t care who the manager is, anyone would be struggling right now. That’s not to say I think Schopp’s doing a good job. The last two games I’ve disagreed with his team selection & think he got it badly wrong but we will get better that’s for sure.

You can’t add Morris & Anderson to this side & get worse. Plus J Williams, Gomes, Benson, Vita, Oulare & Iseka to hopefully get up to speed very soon.

Who knows the board might scapegoat Schopp but the main reasons we’re struggling aren’t down to him & whether he’s in charge or not we will get better.

Agree with vertually all of that.
Imho we arent as fit as last season (fitness coach) and we have lost are most influential players for the style/ formation we played.
This guy has tried to alter stuff but not the formation....that and his square pegs in round holes with players is bizzare but i cant help not judging him until he has a full complement of players at his disposal.
As an aside please play gomez in midfield 3 today!

That's ridiculous, getting on at him because he watches the game with his hands in his pockets!

I think the board have alot to answer for recruitment has been awful.

Schopp hasn't been great no connection to fans, playing players out of position, playing players who are in poor form and expecting diffrent out comes, poor team selection, naive tactics, 4 goals scored from open play so far this season says alot.
